The View Hosts Celebrate Joy Behar’s Birthday As She Recovers From Injury
Joy Behar may have been missing from The View on Wednesday, October 7, but her cohosts made sure she knew she was still very much part of the show.
Behar turned 84 on Wednesday, and Whoopi Goldberg, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro, Sunny Hostin, and Alyssa Farah Griffin took a moment at the beginning of the broadcast to celebrate the longtime The View cohost while she continues recovering from a dislocated shoulder.
“We Want To Wish Joy Behar A Happy Birthday”
Whoopi Goldberg opened the show by acknowledging Behar’s special day and sending her birthday wishes from the entire panel.
But instead of simply offering a traditional birthday message, Goldberg revealed that Behar had sent in a message of her own.
Behar joked about sharing her birthday with Vladimir Putin, adding her own characteristically sharp humor while updating viewers on her situation.
Goldberg then explained that Behar was still recovering from her shoulder injury and encouraged her to get better soon so that the panel could celebrate her properly when she returns.
Whoopi Admits She Missed Joy
Goldberg also reflected on Behar’s absence during a live Behind the Table podcast event in New York City.
Behar frequently fills in as moderator when Goldberg is away, so Goldberg joked about returning the favor.
“Yes, Joy, I sat in for you,” Goldberg said, referencing Behar’s usual role on the panel.
The moment highlighted the familiar relationship between the longtime cohosts, who have spent years sharing the View table together.
The Injury That Kept Behar Off The Show
Behar’s latest absence was first reported on October 1, when she unexpectedly missed the live panel because she had dislocated her shoulder.
At the time, Goldberg was also away filming a movie, leaving Sunny Hostin to step in as substitute moderator.
Hostin explained to viewers that Behar was recovering and expected to return, while Sara Haines later took over the moderator role during Behar’s continued absence.
Wednesday’s birthday tribute marked the first time Behar had publicly addressed the injury herself.
The longtime cohost has dealt with another injury-related absence in the past, having missed several episodes of The View in 2025 while recovering from a foot injury.

The birthday celebration also gave the panel plenty of opportunity for humor.
Ana Navarro joked about Behar sharing a birthday with Putin, while Alyssa Farah Griffin revealed that she shares her birthday with Xi Jinping.
Griffin summed up the unusual coincidence by joking about the connection between The View hosts and world leaders born on the same day.
Despite the jokes, the underlying message was clear: Behar’s absence has been noticed at the table.
For now, the longtime cohost is focused on recovering from her shoulder injury, while her colleagues continue holding down the show and waiting for her return.
And on her 84th birthday, The View made sure that even from home, Joy Behar remained part of the conversation.
