It Looked Ridiculously Easy…!— Four The 1% Club Contestants Were Knocked Out By A Simple Three-Letter Puzzle, But Almost Nobody Spotted The Connection In Time! Lee Mack gave The 1% Club contestants just 30 seconds to solve what appeared to be a ridiculously simple word puzzle.

The 1% Club Players Stumped by Tricky Three-Letter Word Puzzle

A seemingly simple word puzzle left four contestants out of the running on The 1% Club — but could you spot the three letters needed to solve it?

Lee Mack, 56, was back on ITV with another episode of the hit quiz show, where contestants face puzzles designed to test logic, reasoning and common sense rather than traditional general knowledge.

The format begins with 100 players, who are gradually eliminated as the questions become more challenging. Their ultimate goal is to survive to the final question, which only 1% of the public are expected to answer correctly.

Could You Find The Three Missing Letters?

One puzzle asked contestants:

“What same three letters can be added to the end of each of these to make three words?”

The words displayed on screen were:

TI
MAN
CAS

Players had to identify one combination of three letters that could be added to the end of all three.

After the countdown ended, Lee revealed that four contestants had been eliminated by the question.

The three letters were T, L and E, creating:

  • TI + TLE = TITLE
  • MAN + TLE = MANTLE
  • CAS + TLE = CASTLE

The puzzle was another example of how The 1% Club can turn a basic-looking word challenge into a surprisingly difficult test when contestants are working against the clock.

Rachel Reveals Her Dream Prize

Lee then turned his attention to Rachel, who was still in the competition, and asked what she would do if she won the money.

“I would go to the Galapagos,” she replied.

Rachel added that she would take her friend with her because they had wanted to go when they were younger but had never managed to make the trip because they ran out of money.

“Brilliant, Good Luck tonight,” Lee told her.

More Puzzles That Have Stumped The 1% Club

Game show question: What three letters can be added to "TI," "MAN," and "CAS" to make words?

The show has delivered plenty of other challenging questions that have tested contestants in unexpected ways.

Players have previously been asked to compare three butterfly images and identify which were exactly the same on both sides. Another puzzle showed groups of six symbols and asked which remained in the same order when read from left to right and right to left.

Other challenges have included calculating the number of possible ways to display four digits on one hand and deciphering a secret code hidden inside an old diary.

One puzzle challenged contestants to count the number of eyes visible in an image made up of letters, symbols and emojis.

Word puzzle: What three letters complete "TIT_", "MANT_", and "CAST_"? The answer is "TLE".

A particularly difficult 1% question used a grid numbered from 1 to 49. Starting at square 25, players had to follow a series of word-based instructions before working out which square they would reach next.

And even an apparently straightforward food puzzle proved troublesome. Contestants were shown ABDER and asked to identify the common food whose letters had been rearranged into alphabetical order.

The variety of questions is what makes The 1% Club so unpredictable: contestants aren’t relying on facts they have memorised, but on whether they can spot the right pattern or connection under pressure.

The Picture Puzzle That Followed

In another challenge from the episode, Lee showed the contestants three images that appeared to depict a rope, a rocket and some test tubes.

He asked:

“What common three word phrase is represented here?”

As the contestants put their thinking caps on, Lee joked: “Looks like a selection of ways my wife has thought to get rid of me.”

Once again, four people were knocked out before Lee revealed the solution.

The episode demonstrated exactly what makes The 1% Club different from traditional quiz shows — sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing the answer, but seeing the connection hiding in plain sight.
