Psychological thriller The Patient has landed a new UK streaming home – and just in time for a weekend watch. First released in 2022, the FX series focuses on a therapist whose client is a serial killer.
Steve Carell plays central character Dr Alan Strauss, who is held captive by murderer Sam Fortner (Domhnall Gleeson) in a “choice that binds them deeply together”.
The Patient has now been added to ITVX for viewers, with all 10 episodes of the limited series streaming now.

Created by Joel Fields and Joe Weisberg, the show also stars Causeway‘s Linda Emond, Barry‘s Andrew Leeds, Heroes‘ Alan Blumenfeld and St Denis Medical‘s David Alan Grier.
Well received by critics, the series sits at an impressive 89% fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes based on 62 reviews, The Globe and Mail calling it “like nothing you’ve seen recently” with episodes that are “unfailingly gripping, scary and moving”.
Film Inquiry suggested it was “really elevated in its dialogue and writing” though is really “sold by amazing performances from Domhnall Gleeson and Steve Carell”.

“The Patient stands out amidst a sea of shows about serial killers, making for a deeply captivating watch that involves equal parts anticipation into its final outcome and a meditation on family dynamics,” added The Hindu.

The Independent said: “The show is intelligent and unusual, aided by a fine turn from Carell. In less assured hands, The Patient would have devolved from its premise into yet another twisting and turning entrapment drama.”
However, in a more mixed verdict, The Guardian said that if “you can be patient, The Patient will yield its rewards”, suggesting that “as the series wears on” it “feels a bit too slow and repetitive”.
RogerEbert.com added: “The Patient is a long journey to create empathy in the darkest of minds, but overall it makes for an overlong, dull mind game.”
The Patient is streaming now on ITVX and Disney+ in the UK.
