U2 was in Mexico City on Tuesday (May 12), performing on the top of a bus as they debuted a new song called “Street of Dreams,” which is the first music we’ve heard from their next album. It doesn’t have a title yet, but it’s definitely coming later this year.
The shoot went like this.
On May 6, fans in the Mexico City area received emails asking if they were available for a little filming. After filling out an application, notifications were sent out to those lucky enough to be picked. They were told to gather at Plaza de Santo Domingo in the heart of Mexico City where they were given wristbands and hand stamps.
A bus showed up festooned with speakers, and its roof turned into a stage. That’s where the band performed–and yes, Larry Mullen Jr. was on drums, marking the first time he’s appeared with the band in a long time. They played it three times so the cameras could capture everything for an upcoming video.
When the rain came, the band moved to a balcony in a nearby building where they performed Desire”, “Vertigo”, “Angel of Harlem” and “In A Little While.”
The best guess is that this single will be out June 12, the day after the World Cup starts in Mexico. There’s a real possibility that U2 is also shooting footage specifically for the World Cup.
