Princess Kate Swaps Her Signature Heels for Loafers During Solo Charity Visit
Princess Kate traded her usual polished heels for a much more understated pair of loafers as she carried out an important solo engagement in Southend-on-Sea on September 24.
The Princess of Wales visited The Forward Trust to mark Addiction Awareness Week, choosing a smart yet relaxed outfit that put one of her trusted flat shoe styles firmly in the spotlight.
Kate has long been known for her collection of elegant pumps and statement heels, but her latest appearance showed that she can create an equally polished look without reaching for stilettos.
A Modern Look for an Important Engagement
For the visit to The Forward Trust, Kate paired her loafers with a double-breasted jacquard blazer, a chocolate-brown knitted top and matching tailored trousers that fell just above her ankles.
She completed the look with her hair styled in long, softly curled waves that fell down her back.
The outfit offered a noticeably more practical feel than the glamorous ensemble she wore just two days earlier at the Digger premiere in London, where she joined Prince William on the red carpet.
For that occasion, Kate wore a floor-length purple Jenny Packham gown, accessorised with the Queen Mother’s Amethyst Sautoir Necklace and Princess Diana’s Collingwood Pearl Drop earrings.
Her Southend appearance, by contrast, was firmly focused on a daytime charity engagement, with the tailored separates and comfortable footwear creating a more understated silhouette.
Kate’s Go-To Loafers Make Another Appearance
The Princess of Wales has previously shown that she is not afraid to replace her signature heels with flats for public engagements.
Her latest loafers are part of a style she has returned to before, including during a visit to Castle Hill Academy in New Addington in February 2026.
On that occasion, Kate was marking the beginning of Children’s Mental Health Week and opted for another polished take on the preppy aesthetic.
She wore a Petar Petrov jacket with a sky-blue WNU shirt, belted chocolate-brown cigarette trousers and Boden Nya Penny loafers.
The combination offered a balance between formal tailoring and comfort — a formula Kate has continued to revisit for daytime royal duties.
Supporting The Forward Trust
Kate’s latest appearance also marked an important engagement connected to one of her long-standing areas of work.
She travelled to Southend-on-Sea to highlight The Forward Trust’s work supporting people as they recover from addiction. Kate has been patron of the charity since 2021, following its merger with Action on Addiction, which she had previously supported.
During Thursday’s visit, she learned more about Forward Growing, a community initiative that uses weekly gardening sessions to help people connect with nature, build confidence and develop practical skills.
Kate also took part in the gardening activity herself, getting involved with potting alongside participants. The charity hopes the initiative will eventually lead to a dedicated gardening area at Garon Park in Southend-on-Sea.
The visit formed part of Addiction Awareness Week and The Forward Trust’s “Big Addiction Conversation”, which aims to encourage more open discussion around addiction and recovery.
Coming just two days after her glamorous appearance at the Digger premiere, Kate’s latest outing offered a very different glimpse of her public style — proving once again that her royal wardrobe can move effortlessly from evening glamour to practical daytime tailoring.
