Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story Holds No. 1 for a Second Week as Netflix Charts Shift

UNABOMBER leads the English-language film rankings, while Wonka’s The Golden Ticket and A Different World make strong first appearances.

Netflix’s latest Top 10 rankings show Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story continuing to command attention, with the true-crime drama holding the No. 1 position on the English-language TV chart for a second consecutive week.

For the week of September 21, the fourth installment of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan’s Monster anthology series recorded 14.5 million views, a 20% increase from its debut week.

The series stars Ella Beatty as Lizzie Borden, the Massachusetts woman accused of murdering her parents with an axe in 1892.

UNABOMBER Opens at No. 1 on the Film Chart

The biggest film debut of the week came from UNABOMBER, which entered Netflix’s English-language film list in first place with 16.4 million views.

Starring Russell Crowe, Jacob Tremblay, Annabelle Wallis and Shailene Woodley, the drama is inspired by true events and follows Ted Kaczynski’s transformation from a teenage Harvard prodigy and test subject into the man who became known as the Unabomber, while the FBI works to track him down.

The film’s arrival gives Netflix another true-crime title near the top of its weekly rankings, following the continued success of Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story.

Wonka’s The Golden Ticket Makes a Sweet Debut

Reality competition series Wonka’s The Golden Ticket opened at No. 2 on the English-language TV chart, collecting 4.6 million views.

Inspired by Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel Charlie and the Chocolate Factory and the 1971 film Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, the series brings 12 Golden Ticket winners into the iconic Chocolate Factory.

Inside, the contestants face a series of challenges in a high-stakes competition for a life-changing prize. Netflix describes the format as a social experiment designed to test contestants physically, mentally and morally, with only one ultimately taking the top prize.

A Different World Brings Hillman College Back

Another notable debut came from A Different World, which landed at No. 4 on the English-language TV list with 4.2 million views.

The sequel to the beloved ’80s and ’90s sitcom introduces a new generation of students at Hillman College. At its center is Deborah, played by Maleah Joi Moon, the daughter of original characters Dwayne Wayne, played by Kadeem Hardison, and Whitley Gilbert, played by Jasmine Guy.

The new series follows Deborah as she begins her freshman year and attempts to establish an identity of her own while stepping into the same college world her parents once knew.

The series has also attracted attention for its opening-credits theme performed by Brandy, which has surpassed 1.3 million streams worldwide across streaming platforms.

Best of the Best and The Whisper Man Keep the Film Chart Moving

College life also made an appearance on the English-language film chart through Best of the Best, which climbed to No. 2 with 7.3 million views.

Co-written by and starring Hasan Minhaj, the dance comedy follows childhood best friends played by Maitreyi Ramakrishnan and Priyanka Kedia as they join UCLA’s fiercely competitive Bollywood-fusion dance team.

Meanwhile, The Whisper Man landed at No. 5 with 4 million views. The crime thriller stars Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan and Adam Scott.

Crew Girl Extends Its Run

On the TV side, Crew Girl remained a strong performer, reaching No. 3 for its third consecutive week with 4.5 million views.

The young adult series stars Miku Martineau as a gifted teenager who attempts to revive her rowing ambitions by joining her school’s boys’ varsity crew.

The Gentlemen also continued to perform well. Season 2 ranked No. 5 with 4.2 million views, while the first season returned to the chart at No. 8 with 2.4 million views.

The stylish crime series follows a clandestine marijuana operation being run from a family estate.

Family Favorites Continue to Draw Viewers

Netflix’s younger audiences also helped keep several familiar titles in the Top 10.

Gabby’s Dollhouse ranked No. 6 with 2.7 million views, while Danny Go! placed No. 10 with 1.7 million views.

Netflix has also announced plans for two new series set within the Gabby’s Dollhouse universe, alongside additional programming aimed at preschool and young viewers.

Not a Stranger Leads the Non-English TV Chart

The week’s top non-English TV title was Turkish thriller Not a Stranger, which collected 9.7 million views to take first place.

Elçin Sangu stars as Funda, a new mother who hires a nanny, played by Melis Sezen. But the caretaker’s arrival brings a series of new mysteries into the home Funda shares with her husband, played by Ozan Dolunay.

On the non-English film chart, the Indian adventure Irumudi took the No. 1 position with 3.4 million views.

The film follows a troubled father, played by Ravi Teja, as he undertakes a revered spiritual practice.

With Monster: The Lizzie Borden Story holding its position at the top of the English TV chart, UNABOMBER opening strongly on the film side and several new releases entering the rankings, Netflix’s latest weekly results highlight a particularly varied mix of true crime, reality competition, comedy, drama and returning favorites.
