Harlan Coben’s ‘Myron Bolitar’ Could Be His Most Personal Netflix Thriller Yet
After bringing numerous Harlan Coben mysteries to television, Netflix is preparing to adapt a character the bestselling author has spent more than three decades developing. Myron Bolitar is now in production, with an impressive cast and acclaimed television creator David E. Kelley helping bring one of Coben’s most cherished literary creations to the screen.
The project carries a different kind of pressure for the author. While Coben has seen several of his standalone novels become successful television dramas, he has admitted that adapting Myron is particularly nerve-racking because of his deep emotional attachment to the character.
The series is filming in New York City, with Colin Woodell taking the lead role. However, Netflix has yet to announce an official premiere date.
Why Myron Bolitar Is So Important to Harlan Coben
Myron Bolitar first appeared in Coben’s 1995 novel Deal Breaker and has since featured in 12 books in the author’s long-running series.
A former college basketball star with NBA ambitions, Myron sees his sporting future disappear after a career-ending injury. Rather than walking away from competition altogether, he channels his determination and intelligence into a new career as a sports agent.
He establishes his own agency, MB Sports, where he represents talented athletes who might otherwise be overlooked. But the world surrounding professional sports is far from straightforward. Blackmail, murder, dangerous personal conflicts and questionable business dealings repeatedly pull Myron into situations that go well beyond his professional responsibilities.
His closest ally is Win Lockwood, a wealthy, resourceful and fiercely loyal friend who is willing to use more ruthless methods when trouble arises. Together, they become an unlikely team, with Myron often risking his own safety to protect the people who depend on him.
That combination of suspense, humour, friendship and moral complexity has helped make Myron one of Coben’s most enduring characters.
Speaking on the Table Manners podcast with Jessie and Lennie Ware, Coben explained why this adaptation feels different from his previous television projects. Unlike a standalone novel, which focuses on a character he may never revisit, Myron has remained part of his literary world across multiple books.
“Myron is my heart, and I’m very nervous about that series,” he admitted.

A Star-Studded Cast and an Acclaimed Creative Team
Colin Woodell, known for The Continental and Pulse, will lead the Netflix adaptation as Myron Bolitar. Joining him are several familiar television faces, including KJ Apa as Win Lockwood and Diane Guerrero as Esperanza Diaz, Myron’s indispensable colleague at MB Sports.
The wider cast includes Jabari Banks as tennis prodigy Dwayne Richmond, Chloe Fineman as sports journalist Parker Quinn, Jamie McShane as NYPD detective Ray Dimonte and Ra’Mya Latiah Aikens as Dwayne’s fiancée, Wanda Green.
Ben McKenzie will appear as Gavin Pierce, a prominent sports agent who once represented Myron before dropping him following his injury. The two have never resolved their differences.
Other cast members include:
- Melissa Benoist as Valerie Simpson, a former tennis star attempting a comeback after a mysterious breakdown on the court.
- Bebe Neuwirth as Ellen Bolitar, Myron’s mother and a former public defender.
- Griffin Dunne as Alan Bolitar, Myron’s father and a source of support and advice.
- Isaiah Hill as Jayden Elder, a highly regarded young basketball prospect.
- Amanda Warren as Deanna Richmond, Dwayne’s mother.
- Quincy Isaiah as Rodney Keys, one of Myron’s NBA clients.
- Charlie Tahan as Roger Quincy, a man struggling to escape his past.
- Jamie Hector as Avery Crowder, a former criminal trying to establish himself in the sports business.
- Sandrine Holt as Detective Sharon Steele, a member of the major case squad.
The adaptation also brings together two established names in television drama. David E. Kelley, whose credits include Big Little Lies and Presumed Innocent, is working alongside Kyle Long. The pair will co-showrun, write and executive produce the series.
Coben is also an executive producer through his company, Final Twist Productions. Matthew Tinker and Rick Muirragui are among the other executive producers, while Greg Yaitanes will direct several episodes and serve as an executive producer.
Coben has described the collaboration with Kelley and his team as an honour, expressing excitement about seeing his favourite character brought to life by such an accomplished group.
Netflix executive Jinny Howe has similarly highlighted the significance of the project, describing Myron as one of Coben’s most personal and iconic creations. She also noted that adapting the character had been a major priority for the streamer and an important milestone in its long-running partnership with the author.
When Will ‘Myron Bolitar’ Arrive on Netflix?

Netflix has not confirmed a release date for the series. Production officially began in New York City in July 2026, with filming also taking place in New Jersey. Industry production information indicated that the shoot was expected to continue into early November.
With filming nearing completion, the series will still need to move through post-production before it is ready for release. A 2027 arrival has been suggested by industry coverage, but Netflix has not announced a confirmed launch window.
The project represents another major step in Netflix’s creative partnership with Coben. After a decade of adapting his work, the streamer is now turning to a character who has appeared in 12 novels and holds a particularly important place in the author’s career.
More Harlan Coben Adaptations Are on the Way
Myron Bolitar is not the only new Coben project in development at Netflix. The streamer is also preparing a British adaptation of The Woods, his 2007 novel, starring Tom Bateman and Michelle Keegan.
The eight-episode series follows Paul “Cope” Copeland, a barrister and single father whose sister disappeared from a summer camp 20 years earlier. When a new discovery brings the old case back into focus, he begins to question whether she might have survived. The cast also includes Mandeep Dhillon and Pearce Quigley. Filming wrapped in October 2026, but Netflix has not yet announced a premiere date.
For viewers who do not want to wait for the upcoming releases, Run Away is already available on Netflix. Starring James Nesbitt, the thriller centres on a father whose seemingly stable family life falls apart after his eldest daughter disappears.
Another option is Lazarus, available on Prime Video. Sam Claflin stars as a forensic psychologist who begins experiencing disturbing events following the death of his father, played by Bill Nighy.
With multiple adaptations continuing to expand his television catalogue, Coben remains a major creative presence in the streaming thriller genre. Yet Myron Bolitar stands apart from the rest because of the personal significance its central character holds for him.
First introduced in 1995, the former basketball prospect turned sports agent has spent decades at the heart of Coben’s novels. Now, as the character prepares for his Netflix debut, the author faces the challenge of seeing a story so close to his heart interpreted for a new audience. And by his own admission, this is one adaptation he will be watching with particularly high expectations.
