Guy Ritchie’s Dark New Crime Thriller Unites James Norton, Anthony Hopkins, Benedict Cumberbatch And Rosamund Pike For A Bloody Aristocratic Power Struggle Where Succession, Inheritance And Corporate Control Spiral Into Betrayal And Murder

Guy Ritchie’s Next Crime Thriller Brings Together James Norton, Anthony Hopkins and Benedict Cumberbatch

Guy Ritchie is turning his attention back to the big screen with Wife and Dog, a crime thriller built around a wealthy British family, a ruthless fight for power and a cast packed with familiar faces.

The film arrives as Ritchie continues a particularly busy period. His Netflix series The Gentlemen and Paramount Plus crime drama MobLand have both returned for second seasons, but his next project is taking his signature crime storytelling into cinemas.

Rosamund Pike

A Battle for Power in the British Aristocracy

Wife and Dog is set within the “cut-throat world of the British aristocracy” and follows the wealthy Fairbank family as their decisions set off a dangerous chain of events.

At the centre of the story is a struggle over succession, inheritance and corporate control. The family’s ruthless ambitions eventually fuel betrayal and murder, turning a battle for power into something far more deadly.

The premise gives Ritchie a very different setting from the criminal worlds explored in some of his better-known projects, while still placing power, loyalty and dangerous ambition at the heart of the story.

An Impressive Cast

Happy Valley

One of the biggest draws is the ensemble assembled for the film.

James Norton, best known to many viewers for playing Tommy Lee Royce in BBC drama Happy Valley and for his role in Grantchester, is part of the central cast.

Norton will appear alongside Anthony Hopkins, the Oscar-winning star of The Silence of the Lambs, as well as Benedict Cumberbatch, known for Doctor Strange. Rosamund Pike, whose credits include Gone Girl, also stars.

The combination brings together performers associated with crime, prestige drama and major Hollywood productions for a story rooted in the power struggles of one aristocratic family.

James Norton’s Busy September

The Gentlemen

The announcement comes on the same day, Tuesday, September 29, that Sky revealed Norton will host Saturday Night Live on October 11.

He follows EastEnders star Danny Dyer and will be followed by Wicked star Cynthia Erivo as host.

For Norton, Wife and Dog adds another major project to an increasingly busy run of work, with the actor taking on a role in Ritchie’s latest crime story opposite an ensemble that includes Hopkins, Cumberbatch and Pike.

When Will Wife and Dog Be Released?

Fans will have to wait a little longer to see the film.

Wife and Dog is scheduled to arrive in cinemas on Thursday, February 19, 2027.

The film is directed and written by Guy Ritchie, with the central story revolving around the Fairbank family and the betrayal and murder triggered by their struggle for succession.

Guy Ritchie Already Has Another Film in the Pipeline

Wife and Dog is far from the only feature film Ritchie has in development.

The filmmaker is also working on Viva La Madness, an upcoming crime thriller starring Jason Statham. The project is based on J.J. Connolly’s novel and features an ensemble cast including Vinnie Jones, Jason Isaacs, Camila Mendes, Ben Foster, Jonny Lee Miller and Babs Olusanmokun. Production began in London in 2026.

The story follows an unnamed protagonist who lies low in the Caribbean while waiting for attention surrounding his previous job to fade before attempting to return to London.

The film is currently listed for a 2028 release, with January 21, 2028 given as the U.S. release date by current industry listings.

And Ritchie’s television crime worlds are continuing too: both MobLand and The Gentlemen have been renewed for third seasons, keeping the filmmaker firmly rooted in the crime genre across both television and film.

For now, though, Wife and Dog is the next major Ritchie project heading toward audiences — with James Norton, Rosamund Pike, Anthony Hopkins and Benedict Cumberbatch at the centre of its aristocratic power struggle.
