Before the U.S. celebrated its 250th birthday, Kelly Ripa‘s father, Joe Ripa, celebrated another trip around the sun.

“Happy birthday to my Yankee Doodle Dad! (Featuring nieces and nephew and cakes, oh my!)” Kelly captioned a Friday, July 3, Instagram video featuring photos from her dad’s birthday celebration.

Among the snaps, Kelly and Joe smiled for the camera as she handed him his birthday cake. The family commemorated the occasion with festive red, white, and blue decorations for the Fourth of July weekend. Kelly and her husband, Mark Consuelos, posed for several photos with Joe and other family members, and the group appeared to dine out at a restaurant for Joe’s big day.

Fans shared their own birthday wishes in the post’s comments. “Happy birthday to your dad. It was my dad’s birthday too! He would have been 97 today,” one user wrote. Another added, “Happy Birthday, Mr Ripa!!! Looking fantastic!!!” Someone else shared, “What a beautiful blessing happy birthday to Papa.”

In a comment of his own, Consuelos said, “Love you Dad.”

The couple shared more details about Joe’s birthday festivities on the Monday, July 6, episode of Live With Kelly and Mark. “I like this picture because this is, if you know my dad, my dad is harassing me in this photo,” Kelly quipped as the screen shared a photo of Joe being handed his birthday cake. “He is saying something… he likes to harass me a lot.”

Consuelos gushed, “It was great seeing him, great spending time with your folks. [He’s] such a character, such a great man. I really, really enjoy spending time with him.” Kelly went on to joke that her father is the “unofficial mayor of the boardwalk” near his home, added, “It was a perfect beautiful [day] on the coast there. [The] Jersey Shore was gorgeous.”

Joe’s birthday comes a few months after Mark’s father, Saul Consuelos, died in March. Mark announced his father’s death on the April 6 episode of Live, two weeks after Saul “passed away peacefully” after “a long bout with an illness.”

“He came here from Mexico in his early teens. He immigrated here from Mexico. He served his country for 30 years, ended up at Special Operations Command in Tampa. This young kid from Mexico just got his education through the Navy, was always going to school, brilliant, got his master’s [degree], while I was a kid,” Mark said of his father. “He loved this country so much. He loved this country so much. He really is, I would say, an example. If you put a face to an immigrant, he would be the prime example of what this country promises people here in this country. And he raised three pretty good kids.”

Kelly recently paid tribute to Saul, Joe, and Mark in an Instagram Father’s Day tribute. “Let’s hear it for the DADS today!” she wrote alongside a montage of photos of the three dads on June 21. “These three have impacted our lives so greatly, and especially dad Consuelos who lives on in our memories and in our hearts.”
