Sherman singer goes viral after showstopping duet with Riley Green

SHERMAN, Texas (KXII) – Reese Nikole, 20, sang a duet with country singer Riley Green on stage at the Choctaw Grand Theater last weekend, a moment that followed years of singing at home, in church and on social media.
Nikole brought a homemade sign to the concert with a yes or no question: “Can I sing Ella [Langley’s] part during You Look Like You Love Me?”
“I never thought that it was going to happen. I wouldn’t even put the sign up because I was like, he’s going to reject it,” Nikole said.
Green said yes. Nikole performed the duet with him that night.
“As soon as I looked up in the crowd, I started shaking in my boots, literally. And then every time I looked at him, it was like it just went away,” Nikole said.
Nikole received free tickets to return the following night and performed with Green again.
“They got us free tickets for the second night. He looked at me at the same exact moment that he did the first night. And then, yeah, it just went on from there,” Nikole said.
Video of the performances has drawn over a million views and hundreds of thousands of likes.
“Last year, I think it was around this time, I told my mom that I was gonna go to a Riley Green concert and get up on stage and I didn’t even go to that one. So it was just crazy that it happened now,” Nikole said.
Nikole has sung since childhood. Madison Melton, who knows Nikole, said singing is a consistent part of her life.
“I feel like if you know Reese, you know that she likes singing. Like she likes singing random stuff under her breath all the time,” Melton said.
“For as long as I can remember, I was singing ‘Let It Go’ in a Justin Bieber nightgown in the living room,” Nikole said.
Nikole said she has dealt with stage fright that grew as she got older.
“I have stage fright. The older I got, the more nervous I got. I don’t know if it was people, like what people were gonna say or how people were gonna see me or, oh my gosh, if I mess up, like I think it was just like that,” Nikole said.
That fear led her to skip an opportunity to audition for “The Voice.”
“I would say that I accidentally missed it, but I would do it on purpose because I was just too scared,” Nikole said.
Green serves as a coach on “The Voice.” Nikole said she would choose his team if she competed on the show now.
“Do you think if you win on The Voice now, you would be Team Riley? Oh, 100%. 100% I would. I don’t think I could get up there and not pick him after that,” Nikole said.
Mikaylah Komorowski said she hopes Nikole auditions for the show.
“I hope she goes and gets herself out there a little bit more and is more confident in that,” Komorowski said.
