Netflix Crime Hit Legends Officially Renewed for Season 2 After Fans Demand More

Netflix has delivered the news Legends fans have been waiting for: the hit crime thriller is officially returning for a second season.

The six-part drama arrived on Netflix in May 2026 and quickly found an audience with its story of ordinary customs officers sent undercover to infiltrate drug gangs in 1990s Britain. Now, just months after its debut, Netflix has given the series the green light for another chapter.

The renewal follows an enthusiastic response from viewers, although fans may face a lengthy wait before the new episodes reach their screens.

Legends will return for Season 2

Loosely inspired by real undercover operations, Legends also draws from former customs officer Guy Stanton’s 2022 memoir, The Betrayer.

The series combines that real-life inspiration with a cast led by Steve Coogan, best known to many viewers for playing Alan Partridge. Coogan stars as supervisor Don, while Charlotte Ritchie is also among the show’s cast.

Creator Neil Forsyth, whose previous credits include The Gold and Guilt, welcomed Netflix’s decision to continue the story.

“I’m delighted to have the opportunity to tell a new story in the fascinating and unique world that Legends offers,” Forsyth said, “and to show just how dangerous, thrilling, and important their work became in the late 1990s.”

His comments indicate that the second season will continue exploring the increasingly dangerous undercover world established during the first six episodes.

Fans could face a long wait

While the renewal is confirmed, Legends Season 2 will not be arriving immediately.

Production on the second season is currently expected to begin sometime in 2027. With no precise filming date or release window announced, viewers could potentially be waiting until late 2027 or even early 2028 before the series returns.

For now, those dates remain estimates rather than confirmed release plans.

Viewers praise the 1990s crime drama

The renewal follows strong reactions from fans, with viewers particularly praising the performances and the show’s recreation of 1990s Britain.

“This series is now the best TV drama series I’ve ever watched,” one IMDb reviewer wrote.

Another called it a “terrific watch” but wished there had been more episodes, while a third praised both the acting and period setting.

“This series is brilliant. They got 90s Britain down perfectly,” the viewer wrote, adding: “The acting is some of the best I’ve ever seen.”

The demand for additional episodes will now be answered, even if viewers need to be patient.

Legends is also among several Netflix titles receiving renewal news, alongside House of Guinness, while The Gentlemen is set for a third outing.

With Season 2 officially approved and Forsyth promising another story from the dangerous world of late-1990s undercover operations, Legends is now preparing to continue a crime drama that quickly became a fan favourite.
