Oh…Oh… Count On Me Like 1….2…3….Go! 17 Players Saw The Numbers But Completely Missed The Pattern. The 1% Club’s Tricky Sequence Looked Like A Straightforward Maths Challenge Until One Hidden Rule Sent Contestants Down The Wrong Path And Triggered A Brutal 17-Person Wipeout

The 1% Club Put 61 Numbers on Screen and Gave Players 30 Seconds to Find the Missing One — Somehow 17 Were Eliminated

Number puzzle: Find the missing number from 1 to 61.

Seventeen The 1% Club contestants were knocked out by a question that required no complicated maths, no obscure knowledge and no elaborate logic.

All they had to do was look at a collection of numbers and spot the one that wasn’t there.

It was only the 70% question, meaning players were still relatively early in their pursuit of a potential share of the £100,000 prize pot.

Lee Mack presented them with numbers running from 1 to 61, displayed across the screen in an assortment of different colors.

One number had disappeared.

Their challenge was brutally simple:

“Here is a range of numbers from 1 to 61. What is the missing number?”

They had 30 seconds.

See if you can find it before reading any further.

17 Players Couldn’t Spot It in Time

At first glance, the puzzle appeared to be one of the easier challenges contestants would face during the game.

There was no hidden equation to solve.

The players simply needed to scan through the sequence carefully enough to identify the gap.

But filling a screen with 60 different numbers made that considerably harder under pressure.

Once the 30 seconds expired, the scale of the damage surprised even Lee.

“That was quite a lot of you,” he remarked after seeing the results. “We have lost 17 there.”

Seventeen contestants had failed a 70% question.

The answer was 29.

Anyone carefully following the sequence would have noticed the display moved directly from 28 to 30.

Simple after the reveal.

Far less simple when dozens of colorful numbers are competing for your attention and a 30-second clock is counting down.

It Wasn’t the Show’s Biggest Recent Wipeout

The 1% Club contestants caught out by tricky sequence question - but can you spot it?

Seventeen eliminations sounds brutal, but another apparently straightforward puzzle managed to take out almost twice as many contestants.

Lee previously asked:

“Which of these would it be impossible to do?”

Number puzzle: find the missing number (29) from 1 to 61.

Players were given three possibilities:

Marry your cousin’s cousin.

Marry your brother’s widow.

Marry your widow’s sister.

A staggering 32 contestants got it wrong.

The trick was hidden in the wording of the final option.

If someone is your widow, you are already dead.

Therefore, you couldn’t marry your widow’s sister.

Once again, the challenge wasn’t about specialist knowledge. It was about resisting the pressure of the clock long enough to notice one tiny detail.

That’s exactly what made the missing-number puzzle so effective.

Sixty numbers were sitting in front of the contestants. Only one was absent. Seventeen players had 30 seconds to notice the jump from 28 to 30 — and their games ended before they could find it.
