The longtime hosts announced that the series will introduce a brand-new rapid-fire game called “Fortune Frenzy” — and it will put contestants under pressure almost immediately.
According to Seacrest, the idea is simple: get more gameplay into the show’s limited runtime while giving contestants another opportunity to win money.
“This is exciting,” Seacrest teased during the interview, explaining that the show is adding the rapid-fire game because viewers have often wondered how Wheel of Fortune could fit even more games into its relatively short running time.

“Fortune Frenzy” will appear at the beginning of each episode, giving contestants the chance to solve puzzles quickly and earn $1,000 for every puzzle they successfully solve. The catch is that they will have only a very short amount of time to figure out each clue.
That means contestants will not have much time to settle into the game before the pressure begins.
A sneak peek of the Season 44 premiere already showed the new segment in action. Under the category “Season Premiere!”, contestants were challenged with clues including “It’s great to be back!” and “It’s opening night!”
The rapid-fire format is designed to create an immediate burst of energy rather than easing contestants into the familiar rhythm of the show.
And according to Seacrest, that may actually be part of the point.
Ryan Seacrest Says The New Game Could Help Contestants
Taking the stage in front of the famous puzzle board can be intimidating, particularly for contestants who have spent years watching the show from home.
Seacrest believes the new format could help them get past those nerves much faster.
“I think it shakes the nerves off of the contestants at the top,” he explained, pointing to the adrenaline that naturally comes with being thrown straight into a fast-paced puzzle.
Instead of standing around worrying about the cameras, the audience or the pressure of appearing on one of television’s longest-running game shows, contestants immediately have something to concentrate on: solving the puzzle.
Vanna White agreed.
“There’s nothing else to think about but ‘solve that puzzle,’” she explained, emphasizing that the speed of the game leaves contestants with little choice but to focus entirely on the board.
That could make the opening moments of each episode considerably more intense.

White joked that she can even recognize Seacrest by the sound of his footsteps because their dressing rooms are upstairs.
