Major update issued on Ann Widdecombe as ‘targeted attack’ sparks murder probe
Police are still investigating her death.

An inquest will be opened into the death of Ann Widdecombe on Tuesday morning.
The former MP and MEP was found dead at her home in Haytor on Dartmoor, Devon, on July 9 having suffered “serious injuries”.
A 28-year-old white British man who was arrested on suspicion of her murder on July 11 is still being questioned by detectives.
A hearing is scheduled at County Hall in Exeter at 10am on Tuesday to open an inquest into her death.
Miss Widdecombe, 78, was found dead at her home in Haytor after what police believe was a “targeted attack” the day before she was found.
Two days after the murder arrest, counter-terrorism police took over the investigation and said the man had been further arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation or instigation of acts of terrorism.
Terrorism laws allow a suspect to be held for up to seven days in the first instance, with investigators permitted to apply for time extensions up to 14 days in total.
It is understood that the initial seven-day period will expire on Monday evening.
