Lexi Stevens Wins a Four-Chair Turn on The Voice and Makes a Surprise Choice
A single Blind Audition was enough to turn Lexi Stevens into one of the most talked-about contestants of The Voice Season 30.
The 23-year-old New Yorker delivered a powerful performance of Sienna Spiro’s “Die on This Hill” during the second night of the Blind Auditions, prompting all four coaches to turn their chairs and fight for the chance to work with her.
The four-chair turn brought an immediate wave of praise from Queen Latifah, Riley Green, Adam Levine and Kelly Clarkson.
Queen Latifah described Stevens’ performance as both “beautiful” and “masterful,” while Green singled her out as potentially the most talented artist he had seen on the stage so far.
Levine was even more emphatic. After watching Stevens perform, the longtime coach called it the strongest Blind Audition he had seen and told her he believed she could go on to win The Voice.
Clarkson also made her case, emphasizing that Stevens had shown she could take on a demanding, powerful song and make it her own.
Season 30 features Levine and Clarkson alongside first-time coaches Queen Latifah and Riley Green.
Lexi Stevens Had Four Coaches Fighting for Her
The atmosphere around Stevens changed almost instantly once all four chairs had turned.
Each coach had a different reason for wanting her on their team, but the decision ultimately belonged to Stevens. Rather than revealing her choice at the end of the performance, the episode left viewers waiting until the third night of the Blind Auditions.
The delayed decision only added to the suspense. Stevens had four established options, including two coaches with extensive histories on the show and two newcomers making their coaching debuts in Season 30.
When the moment finally arrived, Stevens surprised the coaches and viewers by choosing Adam Levine.
The decision sent Levine into celebration mode. The Maroon 5 frontman dropped to the floor and did push-ups after learning that Stevens had chosen his team.
Stevens Originally Had Kelly Clarkson in Mind
Levine’s celebration became even more significant when Stevens revealed that he had not been her expected choice when she first walked onto the Voice stage.
Backstage, Stevens admitted that she had originally pictured herself working with Clarkson.
Her performance, however, changed her mind.
Levine was clearly thrilled by the revelation. He told Stevens that he believed she had the qualities of a Voice winner and said he was excited about the opportunity to work with her.
For Levine, the choice also added another high-profile artist to a team he hopes can produce another champion.
The coach entered Season 30 as the most recent Voice winner. Alexia Jayy won Season 29, giving Levine his fourth victory as a coach.
Kelly Clarkson Isn’t Ready to Let Adam Levine Pull Ahead
While Levine celebrated, Clarkson was left to deal with the disappointment of losing Stevens.
She also had another reason to be frustrated. Before Stevens made her decision, Clarkson and Levine were tied with four wins apiece on The Voice.
Clarkson acknowledged that she wanted to change that situation and indicated that she planned to keep competing for another victory.
The rivalry between the two veteran coaches adds another layer to Season 30, particularly with Queen Latifah and Riley Green joining them for the milestone season. NBC confirmed that the new season brings the two first-time coaches together with returning coaches Clarkson and Levine.
The Voice Season 30 Continues
Stevens’ four-chair turn came during the show’s three-night Season 30 premiere event, which began Monday, September 21, and continued through Wednesday, September 23.
The Blind Auditions continue beyond premiere week before the competition moves into the next stage.
For Stevens, however, the journey now moves forward with Team Adam. After turning four chairs and attracting praise from every coach, she will begin the next phase of the competition under Levine’s guidance.
