Netflix fans are only just realising who Murder in a Small Town’s leading man is related to.
Canadian psychological detective drama Murder in a Small Town has finally arrived on Netflix UK, two years following its release on Fox in the US.
The two-seasoned series follows the story of Detective Karl Alberg (played by Rossif Sutherland) who swaps his busy city life behind for a quiet coastal town. However, it doesn’t take long before he realises that even the most idyllic places have their secrets, once again taking it upon himself to solve a string of local murders.
Netflix subscribers have quickly caught onto the new release with Murder in a Small Town shooting up the streamer’s most-watched list after its debut earlier this week.
But what fans may not have realised is that Murder in a Small Town’s leading man Rossif Sutherland isn’t the only famous face in his family.
The 47-year-old Netflix star is son of Hollywood icon Donald Sutherland who starred as Hawkeye Pierce in MASH, President Snow in the Hunger Games franchise and Vernon L Pinkley in The Dirty Dozen.
Sadly, Donald Sutherland died at the age of 88 in June 2024 in Miami, Florida, after a long illness.
Rossif also has a famous paternal half-brother in Emmy Award-winning star Kiefer Sutherland, best known for dramas 24 and Designated Survivor.
Acting wasn’t always something that Rossif wanted to pursue though, with Global News reporting: “I remember walking down the street with my dad when I was a kid and I was always taken aback by how imposing and how sometimes very rude people could be by just pointing a camera in my dad’s face without asking for permission.
“I didn’t particularly want to be an actor growing up although I was around it all the time.
“I didn’t really get the craft. I figured it out only later on in my life.”
Murder in a Small Town is available to watch on Netflix.
