A young Tim McGraw fan named Finn left a recent concert with far more than a great memory. He went home with a guitar, a promise to learn how to play it, and a memorable connection to his favorite country star, Luke Combs.
The touching exchange happened during McGraw’s 2026 Pawn Shop Guitar Tour, where the country superstar has been making a point of putting an instrument into the hands of a young fan at each stop.
The tradition has a simple goal: McGraw and his team visit a local pawn shop in each tour city, purchase a guitar, and have McGraw sign it before presenting it to a child in the audience. The hope is to encourage a new generation of music fans to pick up an instrument and discover the joy of playing.
For Finn, the moment quickly became something he will likely remember for years.
Finn Finds His Confidence onstage
After bringing Finn toward the stage, McGraw took some time to talk with him. The young fan was initially quiet, but that changed when McGraw handed him the microphone and gave him the freedom to either sing or talk.
Finn chose to sing.
He performed a few lines of McGraw’s 1997 hit “Where The Green Grass Grows,” prompting a huge reaction from the crowd. The young boy’s willingness to sing in front of a packed audience earned plenty of cheers.
But Finn had one more thing he wanted to tell McGraw before receiving his guitar.
“I know you are best friend with Luke Combs,” he said.
McGraw immediately agreed that Combs was someone worth knowing.
“He’s awesome. I love Luke Combs,” McGraw replied.
McGraw Uses Finn’s Luke Combs Connection to Make a Promise
Once McGraw realized just how much Finn admired Luke Combs, he found the perfect way to encourage the boy to learn his new instrument.
McGraw asked Finn to imagine that Combs himself was standing there and asking him to promise that he would learn to play guitar.
“So if this was Luke talking to you and he asked you if you promised to learn the guitar, would you say yes?” McGraw asked.
Finn confidently answered, “yes.”
McGraw then placed the guitar in his hands.
“Here you go. And thank you to Luke Combs for getting this guy to play this guitar. Have fun, Finn,” he said.
The moment did not go unnoticed by Combs. After McGraw shared the video on social media, the North Carolina singer jumped into the comments with an enthusiastic message of his own:
“HELL YEAH!!!!”
Finn’s Mom Shares His Reaction
Finn’s mother also took to the comments to share just how meaningful the experience had been for her son.
Introducing herself as “Finn’s momma,” she thanked McGraw and explained that her son’s first concert had been a Luke Combs show.
“Finn’s first concert ever was Luke Combs!” she wrote, adding that McGraw had made Finn’s night.
According to his mother, Finn had continued singing “Where The Green Grass Grows” after the concert. She also shared his enthusiastic assessment of the two country stars, saying Finn thought “Luke was 1000% awesome and Tim was 1000% awesome.”
She described the entire experience as the coolest experience of his life.
More Young Fans Could Get Their Own Guitar
Finn’s experience is part of a larger tradition McGraw has brought along for his Pawn Shop Guitar Tour. At each stop, another young audience member has the opportunity to receive a signed guitar and, hopefully, find the inspiration to start playing.
The 2026 tour is scheduled to continue through September 26, leaving several more stops for McGraw to share the special tradition with fans.
For Finn, though, the most important part may be what happens next: picking up the guitar McGraw gave him and keeping the promise he made onstage, with a little help from his favorite artist, Luke Combs.
