Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are saying goodbye to a beloved member of their family after 18 years together.
On Saturday, September 5, the couple shared the heartbreaking news that their dog, Betty, had died. Stefani marked the loss with an emotional collection of photos and videos celebrating the longtime family companion and the many memories they shared.
“it’s with the heaviest hearts that we share our sweet betty has gone to heaven 💔🕊️🐾,” Stefani wrote on Instagram.
The tribute offered fans a glimpse into Betty’s life with the couple, from quiet family moments to days spent enjoying the outdoors at Shelton’s ranch in Tishomingo, Oklahoma.
Betty Was Part of Their Lives Long Before Their Marriage
Betty had been with Shelton and Stefani for 18 years, meaning she was part of their lives even before their relationship began.
Shelton and Stefani started dating in 2015 and married in 2021. Their bond with Betty therefore stretched across much of their relationship, including the years they built their family together.
Stefani’s montage showed the black-and-tan pup spending time with the family, including sweet moments with the couple’s youngest son, Apollo. Other clips captured Betty running around the Oklahoma ranch and enjoying the simple pleasures of everyday life.
Stefani also included moments of herself doting on Betty while rehearsing with her band. In another scene, Betty relaxed in the sunshine, while another showed Shelton giving her a treat in the kitchen.
“She made us all smile for 18 years… we’re going to miss her forever,” Stefani wrote. “thank u betty for all the love + joy u brought into our lives.”
Betty Had a Special Place in Their Love Story
For fans of Shelton and Stefani, Betty was familiar long before this final tribute.
She appeared alongside the couple in the music video for their 2019 duet, “Nobody But You.” The video, released in January 2020, mixed romantic footage of Shelton and Stefani with glimpses of their everyday life, including scenes of the couple cuddling with Betty.
The video gave viewers a particularly personal look at the couple. Along with scenes of them together, it included footage of Shelton and Stefani with Betty, helping make the dog a recognizable part of their shared story.
