The 1% Club: Contestant Matthew Wins Record-Breaking £99,000 Jackpot on ITV Show

Matthew made television history on The 1% Club after correctly answering the show’s final question, securing the biggest jackpot ever won on the ITV quiz.

A tense final question brought an unforgettable moment to the latest episode of The 1% Club, as contestant Matthew walked away with an extraordinary £99,000 prize.

The episode of the popular ITV quiz, hosted by Lee Mack and broadcast on Saturday, saw Matthew outperform his fellow contestants to claim the show’s largest-ever cash prize. His victory came down to a single answer, with the other competitors unable to solve the final puzzle.

Matthew Claims the Biggest Prize in The 1% Club History

The 1% Club challenges 100 contestants to compete for a potential £100,000 prize fund by answering 15 logic-based questions. Each round becomes progressively more difficult, testing the players’ ability to think carefully and approach problems from different angles.

The quiz begins with a question that 90 per cent of the population surveyed answered correctly. As the competition progresses, the questions become increasingly challenging, eventually reaching the notoriously difficult 1% question.

In the latest episode, five contestants remained in contention for the jackpot when they reached the final challenge. The last question took the form of an anagram, putting their reasoning skills to the test one final time.

While the other four contestants admitted they had no idea what the answer might be, Matthew decided to trust his instincts and submit a possible solution.

His guess proved to be the winning answer.

The Final Answer That Won Matthew £99,000

After a brief pause, host Lee Mack confirmed that Matthew had answered correctly. The solution was elephant, and the announcement immediately prompted a delighted reaction from the contestant.

Matthew, who wore an orange shirt and glasses during his appearance, broke into a huge smile and celebrated with a fist pump as he realised he had secured the entire prize fund.

Lee congratulated him on the historic achievement, announcing: “Congratulations Matthew! You are the winner to everything in the prize pot! That’s £99,000!”

The moment marked a major milestone for the ITV series, with Matthew becoming the latest contestant to achieve a rare victory on the show. Before his win, only three other players had ever won The 1% Club.

His success also drew praise from viewers on social media, with one fan congratulating him on his composure under pressure.

“Huge credit to you Matthew honestly that is sublime!

“Handled the pressure well, enjoy the prize.”

The reaction reflected the excitement surrounding a win that required Matthew to find the correct answer when the other finalists had drawn a blank.

The 1% Club Previously Divides Viewers Over an Animal Question

Although Matthew’s victory provided a celebratory moment for the programme, The 1% Club has also sparked debate among viewers over some of its questions and answers.

In a previous episode, fans questioned the accuracy of an answer to an animal-themed challenge that asked contestants to identify how many animals appeared in a sequence of letters without rearranging them.

The puzzle presented the following string:

PHEASANTORTOISEALION

Contestants and viewers were asked to work out how many animal names could be found within the sequence while keeping the letters in their original order.

After considering the puzzle, Lee Mack revealed that the answer was six: pheasant, sealion, ant, seal, tortoise and lion.

However, the explanation did not convince everyone watching at home. Some viewers took to social media to challenge the inclusion of certain answers, particularly the word “ant.”

One viewer expressed their frustration, writing: “#The1PercentClub An ant is NOT an animal! Outrage!”

The disagreement added to the discussion surrounding the show’s occasionally tricky questions, with viewers debating whether the answers provided matched their own interpretations of the puzzles.

Other Contestants Have Missed Out on Major Prizes

Matthew’s record-breaking win came after other players had experienced very different outcomes on the programme.

In another episode, a contestant was presented with what was described as the show’s “hardest question ever” and managed to work out the correct answer.

On a separate occasion, contestants missed the opportunity to claim a substantial £96,000 prize after failing to answer a question that some fans subsequently described as the “easiest ever.”

These contrasting moments have helped keep viewers engaged with The 1% Club, where success depends on navigating increasingly difficult questions and finding the right solution when the pressure is at its highest.

For Matthew, the final anagram proved to be the decisive moment. By identifying “elephant” when his fellow finalists could not find an answer, he secured £99,000 and set a new record for the ITV game show.
