Kelly Clarkson’s Son Remy, 8, Steals the Spotlight With a Sweet Frank Sinatra Performance

Kelly Clarkson’s 8-year-old son, Remington “Remy” Alexander, gave his famous mom an unexpected musical surprise when he stepped up to the microphone and performed Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” for the audience of The Kelly Clarkson Show.

The moment came before the taping of the Wednesday, Nov. 26, 2024, episode, when Clarkson revealed that both of her children, daughter River Rose, 10, and Remy, were in the audience because they were filming on an “off day.”

Clarkson, 42, introduced the performance at the start of the episode, explaining that Remy had decided to entertain the audience before the show began.

“Before the show, Remy took a moment to warm up the audience with his rendition of the Sinatra classic ‘My Way,’” she said.

She then jokingly added, “You’re welcome,” before the show played footage of her son’s performance.

Remy takes the microphone

In the video, Remy confidently sings into a microphone as Clarkson’s band provides the musical accompaniment behind him. He appears completely at ease as he works his way through the Sinatra classic.

His older sister, River, can also be seen in the audience singing along and supporting her brother.

After the clip ended, Clarkson explained that her son had essentially decided on his own that he was ready for a turn onstage.

“He just walked right in today and said, ‘Who do I need to speak to to sing my song?’ I said, ‘Okay, sir!’” Clarkson recalled.

The singer then summed up her feelings about watching her children grow more comfortable around music and performance: “They’re so fun. I love my kids so much.”

The performance also offered another glimpse of Remy’s growing interest in music. Clarkson has previously spoken about how naturally her children have taken to performing, even though they have experienced those moments largely on their own terms.

River and Remy have already shared the stage with their mom

Remy’s Sinatra performance was not his first time stepping into the spotlight alongside Clarkson.

In August 2023, both children joined their mother during her Las Vegas residency. Clarkson later explained in her 2024 PEOPLE cover story that the idea came from the kids themselves.

“They were a little nervous, but it was their idea, not mine,” she said.

During the sold-out performance, River joined Clarkson for a duet of “Heartbeat Song,” one of her mother’s hits. Remy took a different role, happily dancing alongside Clarkson while she performed “Whole Lotta Woman.”

Clarkson said watching her children react to seeing her perform was an especially meaningful experience.

“I was like, ‘I feel like how you’re looking at me is how you watch Spider-Man,’” she recalled.

The reaction caught her by surprise. Clarkson said the children were happy, relaxed and clearly impressed by what they were seeing.

“It caught me completely off guard,” she said, describing the experience as one of her most magical moments because her children were “so happy and at ease” and “just in awe.”

Music is becoming a family affair

Clarkson shares River and Remy with her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock. Over the years, she has occasionally brought her children into moments connected to her career, while also allowing them to decide when they want to participate.

Remy’s interest in performing has become increasingly visible as he has grown older. In 2024, he also accompanied his mother to the 66th annual Grammy Awards, where the two appeared together on the red carpet.

For Clarkson, however, these appearances appear to mean more than simply having her children around her professionally. Their reactions to her performances have given her a different perspective on her career.

Seeing River and Remy watch her perform made Clarkson realize how differently they see their mother when she is onstage. What is familiar to her is still something exciting and impressive to them.

That makes Remy’s decision to walk into the studio and ask for his own chance to sing all the more fitting.

At just 8 years old, he already appears comfortable picking up a microphone and taking his place in front of an audience. And this time, with Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” as his choice, he made sure his mom and sister were there to see it.
