Kelly Clarkson's Daughter Made Her Emotional During Last 'Kelly Clarkson' Show

Kelly Clarkson had one last emotional surprise waiting for her as she closed the chapter on The Kelly Clarkson Show: her children, River and Remington.

During the show’s final episode on Aug. 31, 2026, the 11-year-old River and 10-year-old Remington joined their mother onstage and looked back on some of their favorite memories from the program’s seven-year run. River’s heartfelt words about watching her mother thrive proved especially difficult for Clarkson to hear without getting emotional.

River’s words leave Kelly Clarkson emotional

The children have grown up alongside The Kelly Clarkson Show, making their appearance during the finale a particularly meaningful part of the goodbye.

When Remington was asked about his favorite moments from the show, he pointed to two experiences that stood out to him.

“I liked talking to Jason Momoa,” he said during the Aug. 31 broadcast, also recalling the fun of singing “My Way” with the band.

River’s answer was much more personal.

Turning her attention to her mother, she told Clarkson, “I like watching you shine every single day.”

The simple message immediately brought tears to Clarkson’s eyes. She stepped back for a moment to compose herself before joking that her daughter had pulled an Oprah Winfrey-style move on her.

The moment captured just how much the show had meant to the family. Over the course of its seven seasons, River and Remington had watched their mother build a new chapter of her career while also growing up in front of the audience.

A musical goodbye to seven seasons

Once she had regained her composure, Clarkson invited both children to join her onstage for the final farewell.

Music remained at the heart of the last episode. Clarkson spent the program performing songs from her own catalog alongside fan-requested Kellyoke selections, giving viewers a final celebration of the musical performances that became one of the show’s defining features.

The finale, which marked the end of the seven-season daytime series, was built around Clarkson’s connection with her audience. She thanked viewers for welcoming her into their homes and acknowledged how special it had been to watch her children grow up during the show’s run.

“I loved being in your homes each day,” Clarkson said as she wrapped her arms around River and Remington. “I’ve loved seeing my kiddos grow up on this show as well.”

She also expressed her gratitude to the people who helped make the program possible, thanking the crew, band and everyone who had been part of the show.

“This has been an incredible opportunity,” she said. “Thank you for connecting with us.”

The finale brought a seven-year journey to a close. The Kelly Clarkson Show premiered in 2019 and became closely associated with Clarkson’s candid interviews and musical performances, particularly the Kellyoke segment. The final broadcast continued that tradition by putting her music front and center while giving fans a chance to hear some of the songs they most wanted to see her perform.

Clarkson ended the episode with the familiar words she had used throughout the show’s run, giving them an added weight this time around:

“One last time, from this chapter before we turn the page: Have a great day. And if it’s not, change it.”

Why Kelly Clarkson decided to walk away

The emotional appearance from River and Remington also underscored the personal reason Clarkson chose to leave the daily talk-show schedule.

Earlier in 2026, Clarkson announced that the seventh season would be her last. She said she wanted to prioritize her children after a difficult period for the family, particularly following the death of her former husband and the children’s father, Brandon Blackstock, who died in 2025 after battling cancer.

During a February appearance on Today, Clarkson explained that her family’s circumstances had changed and that the experience had made her think differently about what mattered most.

“Our family life, the dynamic changed a bit, and it has changed for a minute now,” she said.

She went on to reflect on how having children can change the way a person views life and its value.

“It’s one of those things—you start seeing life as how precious it is, too.”

For Clarkson, that realization ultimately led her to reconsider the demands of a daily television show.

“There’s just too much on the plate, so I was like, ‘You know what? It’s time to pull back.'”

Her decision brought the series to an emotional conclusion on Aug. 31, with her children beside her and the show’s music-filled spirit intact.

After seven seasons of welcoming viewers into her world, Clarkson’s final goodbye became a family moment as much as a television farewell. And with River telling her mother how much she loved watching her “shine,” it was clear that one of the most meaningful parts of the show’s seven-year story had been happening just off camera too.
