“YOU WERE REALLY GONNA DO IT?” — Colin Jost Leaves SNL Cast Completely Stunned After Michael Che’s Brutal ‘Weekend Update’ Joke Swap Nearly Pushes Him Into Shaving Off His Famous Hair Live On Air Before A Final Onstage Appearance Sparks Total Chaos Backstage

Colin Jost had the last laugh on Saturday Night Live.

The comedian, 43, surprised the cast by wearing a bald cap at the end of the SNL season 51 finale on Saturday, May 16, after his “Weekend Update” co-host Michael Che joked about him shaving his hair off.

During the “Weekend Update” segment, Jost and Che, 42, participated in their biannual joke swap, where they read each other’s jokes without having previously seen them.

Jost, as part of the bit, told a joke about Kanye West, saying he was “right about Hitler” following his documented history of making antisemitic remarks.

“Now that joke is offensive to everybody and to apologize, I’d like to sacrifice the most important thing in my life. My beautiful, award-winning, world-famous hair,” he continued to read from the script written by Che. “That’s right, I’m shaving it off. Send in the barber.”

A barber entered the scene with a pair of hair clippers and covered Jost with a black cloth. As the barber came close to shaving the comedian’s hair, Che stepped in, saying, “You were really going to do it?”

Che stopped the scene and told Jost, “No, don’t do it,” and the other comedian admitted, “I was so scared.”

However, Jost had a surprise in store during the episode’s end credits. He joined his costars, host Will Ferrell, musical guest Paul McCartney and special guests Molly Shannon and Aziz Ansari onstage with a bald head instead of his signature brown locks.

His shocking appearance seemed to even surprise his castmates, who looked at him with wide eyes and open mouths.

While his “new look” was convincing, it was actually a bald cap. However, Jost previously changed up his look for real in 2020, when he debuted his salt-and-pepper beard that he grew during the pandemic. He ultimately shaved it to film an episode of SNL.

In a previous joke swap, Jost read a comment about his wife Scarlett Johansson.

“New research shows that millions of women leave the workforce due to menopause which means there’s only a couple years left on my gravy train,” he said as a photo of Johansson popped up on the screen next to him. “My girl already be like, ‘Colin, I’m warm. Colin, I’m sweating.’ B—-, you’re having a hot flash.”
