“NO STAGE. NO SPOTLIGHT.” — Zach Bryan Just Got Married, and He Did It Exactly His Way

Zach Bryan is a married man!

The country singer and songwriter quietly tied the knot with his girlfriend, Samantha Leonard, during a romantic ceremony in San Sebastián, Spain.

The newlyweds were seen celebrating in true cinematic fashion — jumping into a convertible and driving off together after saying “I do,” per video obtained by TMZ.

Bryan may have hinted at the big day when he posted what appeared to be a photo of his groomsmen earlier this week.

Fans quickly connected the dots, wondering if the “Pink Skies” singer was gearing up for something major.

A Whirlwind Romance

The wedding comes just a few months after Bryan confirmed his relationship with Leonard on October 18, when he shared a heartfelt birthday post for her on Instagram.

“From bull runs to all the bulls—, today is your birthday, and I love you, Samantha Marie,” he wrote.

He continued, “To the only woman who can hike six miles in Chanel flats, skydive over the Alps, and catch a bigger fish than me all in the same day. Hope your day was as graceful as you are.”

Since then, the couple have appeared together in a handful of social posts — including a clip of them sharing a kiss backstage at Bryan’s record-setting Michigan Stadium concert in late September.

Who Is Samantha Leonard?

According to her social media bio, Leonard splits her time between Newport Beach, Calif., and New York City.

Her posts often showcase travel adventures — from European escapes to coastal getaways — though she generally keeps her private life low-key.

A Quiet New Chapter

It’s no surprise Bryan chose to keep his wedding under wraps.

The 29-year-old has been more private in recent years following his very public breakup and social media feud with Barstool Sports’ Brianna Chickenfry in 2024 and 2025.

Now, it seems he’s found peace — and love — again.

That photo is a screenshot of Zach Bryan singing “Heading South,” and it’s pretty much the reason we’’e all here. Until 2019, Zach was hit and miss with social media videos, but this one — filmed at a Florida Navy base during a break — hit so big that the U.S. Navy was like, “You gots to go!” That was because …

Zach Bryan trained to be a Navy SEAL.

Zach Bryan spent two years training to be a Navy Seal, and he took it very, very seriously. He was preparing to go to Buds, which is Basic Underwater Demolition for the Seals but — per his Joe Rogan interview — he got his package back for that training on the very same day his mother died, and that forced him to re-think a lot of things. He gave up on his Seal dreams that day, and admits even eight years later, he regrets it. His career in the Navy would start to unravel a few years later, and eventually, they kicked him out on honorable discharge. It’s true, Zach Bryan never wanted to leave — the problem was he was getting too big, so they worried he’d break up with them. The only other time the military has discharged someone so they could pursue music, it worked out. Zach and Elvis Presley are an unusual party for two.

‘Yellowstone’ REALLY wanted Zach Bryan.

“Condemned” is probably the second most important song from the years before Zach got really famous. It was recorded in an Airbnb, which is fine if you’re just Second Class Petty Officer Zachary Bryan, but if Hollywood calls, you need to do better.
Yellowstone really wanted to feature Zach’s song, so the show paid for him to record with Chris Stapleton’s producer Dave Cobb in Nashville. It happened in November 2019 and produced a two-song EP called Studio A Recordings.
More importantly, it provided a breakout moment for Season 3 of Yellowstone, released in June 2020. Fans may recall the scene where Agent Hendon goes to jail on murder charges.

The reason why Zach Bryan loves the Eagles …

Zach was born in Japan but mostly grew up in Oklahoma so it never made sense why he’s a huge Philadelphia Eagles fan. It turns out his reasons on on brand for him and really so many fans of any sport.
The reason he loves Philly is because his grandfather hates the Cowboys. They’re NFL rivals, and to take it further, Texas and Oklahoma are rival states. He’s basically the guy who roots for the Red Sox because he hates Derek Jeter, and you have to sort of respect that.

Who is Zach Bryan’s ex-wife?

Zach Bryan’s first marriage ended in divorce. There are some very deep Reddit threads about what happened, but nobody has ever really confirmed the cause. His wife was Rose “Elisabeth” Madden, and they were hitched on a lake in Washington in 2020.
It lasted less than a year, but it did produce some pretty good music, most of which is capture on the Elisabeth album. When released, the cover looked like this — you see the happy couple there on a roof, enjoying a full case of beer.
But in 2024, he removed that photo from the cover on all streaming sites, so it’s now all black. Two songs, “Anita Part 2” and the title track were also wiped.

In 2022 he and Deb Peifer started to date, and that lasted about a year until May 2023, when he sent a social media message announcing they’d broken up and it was mutual.
Soon after, he started to date this woman. That’s Brianna LaPaglia, aka Brianna Chickenfry, and she hosts a podcast. If he dated anyone before joining the Navy, it’s not public.

Credit People for the hard work on this next Zach Bryan fact. His formative years were spent mostly with his dad, even though he and his mother were very, very close.
When he was 12, Dewayne and Annette Bryan divorced. Dad got full custody for reasons we’ll get to next. Both parents were in the Navy — in fact, Victor Dewayne Bryan was a Master Chief Mechanist Mate until he retired from the Navy after 24 years. By the way, both of his parents, his uncles, grandfather and great-grandfather all served in the U.S. Navy.

How did Zach Bryan’s mom die?

Zach Bryan’s mom died on August 3, 2016. He was only 20, and it’s safe to say it rocked his world. You could make the case that he’s still rattled today.
“My mom was my best friend,” he shared a few days later alongside a photo of the two of them from when he was little. “I would call her every morning at 6AM on my way to work and she would call me every night after my workout and ask, ‘Well how many miles did you run today?'”
A lyric from “Dawns” that describes a heart attack is really the only time Zach has spoken to the cause of his mother’ death. She was only 49 years old, but simply saying she died of a heart attack doesn’t tell the full story.
Talking to the New York Times, Bryan referred to her longtime struggles with alcohol, and American Songwriter notes that she died from complications related to alcoholism (a caveat being it’s not clear where that info came from).

Does Zach Bryan do interviews?

Zach Bryan has really only given a handful of important interviews. There’s the New York Times piece behind a paywall, a story or two he did for local Oklahoma papers, and the massive, 3-hour-long Joe Rogan Experience interview which is probably the best look at him.
You can also learn a lot watching his Grand Ole Opry debut video. When you actually get to see him talk and interact, he’s sort of lovable and nothing like the reticent, prickly dude he appears to be on social media. This is a self-serving request, but Zach should really do more interviews!

Who is Zach Bryan’s sister?

Mackenzie Bryan is a couple years older than Zach. She is actually a stand up comedian named Mac Bryan. and on social media she identified as a life long lesbian who is “rocking’ it sober.”
This is only important because it kind of puts into context Zach getting upset about attacks on the transgender community in 2023. Talking to Joe Rogan, he shared that Mackenzie’s spouse was transitioning at the time, or had transitioned. He and his sister are very close.
