Have you ever wondered what a stage manager on The Price Is Right does? Steve Hollander took fans through a day-in-his-life video and showed what he does during the tapings, as well as other crew members.

The video of Hollander was shared to TPIR‘s Instagram page on July 26. He introduced himself at the beginning of the video and said that he is the lead stage manager at the game show and is one of three stage managers.

Hollander shared that he has been a stage manager for over 30 years. He first started off on Late Night With Conan O’Brien and then The Tonight Show. “When Conan ended, they needed a body here, so I was fortunate enough to go from late-night to daytime,” Hollander said.

During the video, he showed the models displaying the prizes, him cueing the crowd to cheer when the show came back from commercial, and him standing on the side of the stage to make sure everything was going correctly.

Hollander then introduced Chris and Stephanie, the two stage and prop dressers. As he walked into the stage’s left wing, Hollander showed off the empty space and said that they didn’t have a lot of stuff to bring out. But he introduced Instagram to Stephanie. “Between Stephanie, Chris, and myself, we get this all done on the side,” Hollander shared.

“We really run the whole thing,” Stephanie said. Hollander was then filmed talking to various stage members, including showrunner John Quinn, art director Dan Boland, and his dog, Jeffrey.

The stage manager said that the electronics have changed considerably over the years and they are the biggest things to have changed. The game technicians set up the phones, iPads, computers, etc., to show moving videos on the screens.

“Let’s go make some TV,” he said as he walked out onto the stage.  Hollander hugged Hannah Holub, the contestant producer, who gets all of the hopeful contestants amped up and helps choose who should be on the show.

“At the top of the show, I’ve got to keep an eye on the first four bidders. They get so excited sometimes they’ll lose their senses, and they wind up on stage,” he shared with the camera.

Hollander showed how he counts host Drew Carey in. He also revealed that model Devin Goda “needs all the help.” “All the hand-holding. We can’t hold his hand enough today,” the stage manager said.

Hollander was then seen holding up a piece of crumbled-up paper to a camera while Goda was on stage with a prize. He then moved the paper to the other camera, and the one before it turned around and away from the stage.

At the end of the video, he shared that an hour show is filmed and then they go to lunch and film two more episodes. “By the end of the season, we have at least 160 episodes filmed. “But we’ve changed people’s lives today. We had fun. I like what I do. I like how the sausage is made. I always did, and I hope you guys got something out of it,” he ended.
