Richard Goodall wants everyone to get in the holiday spirit.
On December 14, the winner of America’s Got Talent Season 19 took to Instagram to share his latest performance. No, it wasn’t another stunning Journey cover (although fans can’t get enough of those) but a solemn and heavenly cover of “Silent Night” that shows just how versatile the school janitor-turned-singing-sensation is.
Goodall, dressed in festive red-and-green Christmas attire, took a few moments before he sang to share an inspirational message to everyone watching.
“Merry Christmas, everybody,” he said. “Another request, thank you everybody for the comments. I know it’s a hard time of year, and people lose people… and we keep up the hope. That’s what music’s all about. It talks to us all.”
With that, the 56-year-old traded his soft-spoken voice for his deep vocal register with a rendition of “Silent Night” that will give you the chills.
Giving the classic holiday tune the gravitas it deserves, Goodall’s understated approach to the song is in stark contrast to his arena-filling vocals that highlighted his run in AGT Season 19. Every note was pitch-perfect, and he delivered every word with grace.
Despite winning one of the most prestigious talent competitions in the world, Goodall has remained grounded and genuine, something that his fans took notice of in the comments.
“Thanks for remaining authentic and beautiful throughout this journey Richard! ❤️💫⭕️🎄,” wrote one person.
Although Goodall made headlines as the “singing janitor” through Season 19, it’s safe to say that he’s shed that descriptor and can now safely be known as Richard Goodall — the singer, period.
Howie Mandel announces virtual auditions for AGT Season 21
Beginning in 2026, it’ll be easier than ever to find yourself on the iconic AGT stage!
In a December 8 Instagram post, longtime Judge Howie Mandel gave aspiring Acts everywhere some amazing news: Virtual auditions are here! The star’s caption said it all:
“#AGT really is the home for EVERY kind of talent. Got a talent that’s uniquely yours? Bring it to the virtual auditions on January 10th,” he wrote.
The official AGT audition website gives further information, proclaiming, “No stage, no travel, no excuses. If you’ve got talent, sign up for a virtual audition!” In addition to the virtual audition process, Acts can also apply to be on the show by sending a YouTube link or uploading a video of their one-of-a-kind talents.
