The Gentlemen Is Returning to Netflix — and Season 2 Is Taking Eddie and Susie’s Criminal Empire International

Guy Ritchie’s stylish world of aristocrats, gangsters and illicit business is about to get much bigger.

Netflix’s The Gentlemen will return for Season 2 on September 3, 2026, bringing Theo James and Kaya Scodelario back as Eddie Horniman and Susie Glass. This time, however, the pair are no longer simply trying to survive the criminal world they entered during the first season. They are attempting to expand their empire — and the action is moving beyond the English countryside to Italy.

The eight-episode second season was originally announced in August 2024 following the success of the show’s debut run. Ritchie returns as director and co-writer with Matthew Read, while several familiar faces are back alongside a sizable group of newcomers.

And Netflix is clearly confident in where the story is heading: just days before Season 2’s premiere, the streamer has already confirmed The Gentlemen will return for a third season.

Eddie Horniman’s transformation continues

Season 1 introduced Eddie as a British soldier whose life changed dramatically after the death of his father.

He unexpectedly inherited the title of Duke of Halstead along with his family’s sprawling country estate. But the inheritance came with a problem hidden beneath the respectable surface: an enormous cannabis operation was being run from the property.

The business belonged to crime boss Bobby Glass, played by Ray Winstone, and was managed by his formidable daughter Susie.

Eddie initially wanted nothing to do with the criminal enterprise. But as rival gangsters, family complications and increasingly dangerous situations closed in around him, his attitude began to change.

By the end of the first eight episodes, Eddie had gone from reluctant aristocrat caught in someone else’s operation to a co-owner of the Glass family’s massive cannabis empire alongside Susie and Bobby.

Season 2 picks up roughly one year later — and Eddie’s ambitions have grown considerably.

Netflix’s first look at the new episodes makes his new mindset clear: the Duke now wants “everything.”

Eddie and Susie take their operation to Italy

The new season expands the scope of The Gentlemen geographically as well as dramatically.

Eddie and Susie are taking their criminal operation beyond the underground cannabis farm at Halstead, with Italy becoming an important part of their effort to establish a wider international presence.

Ritchie has described the second chapter as a deliberate expansion of the series, moving from the English countryside to the Italian lakes while placing Eddie and Susie at the center of an increasingly unstable empire.

Their biggest problem may not simply be the new rivals surrounding them.

Bobby’s decisions are becoming increasingly questionable, forcing Eddie and Susie to decide whether they should intervene or risk watching everything they have built collapse.

That development places even more pressure on one of the show’s most compelling relationships.

Theo James says Eddie and Susie may never completely trust each other

The chemistry between Eddie and Susie became a central part of Season 1, but their partnership has always existed alongside suspicion.

James previously told Netflix that he believes the two have developed a form of love for each other, even though complete trust may remain impossible because of how different their backgrounds are.

Eddie comes from British aristocracy; Susie was raised inside a criminal dynasty. Their worlds have become intertwined, but that does not necessarily mean either is prepared to completely surrender control.

That tension should become even more significant now that they are jointly overseeing an enormous criminal enterprise.

Season 2 places them in a position where ambition, loyalty and survival are increasingly difficult to separate.

Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and familiar faces return

James and Scodelario are once again leading the cast as Eddie and Susie, with Daniel Ings returning as Eddie’s chaotic older brother Freddy Horniman.

Ray Winstone is also back as Bobby Glass.

Other returning cast members include Joely Richardson, Vinnie Jones, Jasmine Blackborow, Michael Vu, Harry Goodwins, Ruby Sear, Pearce Quigley and Giancarlo Esposito.

Season 2 also significantly expands the ensemble.

Among the newcomers are Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, Benjamin Clementine, Benedetta Porcaroli, Michele Morrone, Sergio Castellitto, Amra Mallassi, Tyler Conti, British boxer Chris Eubank Jr. and television presenter Maya Jama.

The larger cast reflects the increasingly international scale of Eddie and Susie’s business — and the new threats emerging around them.

Guy Ritchie remains at the center of the series

The Gentlemen expands the world Ritchie originally created in his 2019 movie of the same name rather than directly retelling that film.

Ritchie remains deeply involved in the Netflix adaptation as creator, writer, director and executive producer. For Season 2, he and Matthew Read handle the writing, while Ritchie and Eran Creevy direct.

The series is produced by Moonage Pictures and Miramax Television for Netflix.

What began as Eddie’s accidental introduction to an underground criminal operation has consequently developed into something much larger: the story of an aristocrat discovering that he may be surprisingly well suited to the gangster world.

Netflix has already ordered Season 3

Perhaps the strongest indication of Netflix’s confidence arrived before viewers had even seen Season 2.

On August 23, 2026, the streamer officially announced that The Gentlemen had been renewed for Season 3, with Ritchie once again returning to direct.

Ritchie said the ambition of the show has continued to accelerate as its world expands and its consequences become more serious, making another chapter feel like a natural progression.

That means Eddie and Susie’s increasingly dangerous partnership will extend beyond the eight upcoming episodes.

First, however, they have an international empire to manage — increasingly questionable decisions from Bobby to confront, new players entering their world and a relationship built on an uneasy combination of affection and distrust.
