Lioness: Taylor Sheridan’s Spy Thriller Arrives on ITVX With Three Seasons of High-Stakes Action

Looking for a thriller that can turn “one more episode” into an entire night of binge-watching? Taylor Sheridan’s Lioness is now available on ITVX, bringing its high-stakes world of CIA operations, undercover missions and personal sacrifice to a new audience.

Created by the Yellowstone co-creator, the espionage drama follows a specialist CIA programme that recruits and trains female operatives for dangerous undercover assignments connected to the War on Terror. Zoe Saldaña leads the series as Joe McNamara, the CIA officer responsible for managing the Lioness programme.

The series premiered on Paramount+ in July 2023 and has now reached its third season, with all eight episodes of Season 3 available to binge on Paramount+.

Saldaña’s Joe is at the centre of the operation, balancing the demands of running covert missions with the personal consequences that come with the job.

The cast also includes Laysla De Oliveira as Cruz Manuelos, Dave Annable as Neal McNamara, Jill Wagner as Bobby and LaMonica Garrett as Tucker.

The series has also brought major Hollywood names into its supporting cast, including Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Kelly. Saldaña and Kidman are also executive producers, alongside creator Taylor Sheridan.

Sheridan himself has also appeared in the series, taking on the role of CIA officer Cody Spears in Season 2.

A Dangerous Undercover Mission

The first season introduces Cruz, a young Marine recruited into the Lioness programme by Joe.

Her assignment is to go undercover and establish a relationship with Aaliyah, the daughter of a billionaire with ties to terrorism. As Cruz gets closer to her target, the operation becomes increasingly complicated, while another mission involving the Lioness team begins to go wrong.

The assignment eventually brings Cruz to Aaliyah’s wedding, creating an opportunity to reach the target at a critical moment.

The series takes inspiration from a real U.S. military programme, but its characters and missions are fictional.

Season 3 Raises the Stakes Again

The story has continued well beyond its original mission.

Season 3 premiered on Aug. 2, 2026, with eight episodes released weekly through Sept. 20.

The latest season follows Joe as hidden networks, foreign operatives and personal betrayals begin closing in around her. She is forced to navigate the increasingly difficult divide between her professional responsibilities and her family life, while Kaitlyn Meade and Byron Westfield help guide the operation.

The current season once again features Saldaña, Kidman, Morgan Freeman and Michael Kelly alongside returning members of the Lioness team, including De Oliveira, Annable, Wagner and Garrett.

Viewers Praise Its Tension and Pace

One IMDb viewer described Lioness as a gripping mix of action, drama and emotional depth, praising its intense pacing and complex characters.

Audience reactions on Rotten Tomatoes have similarly highlighted the show’s suspense, military-intelligence storyline, performances and fast-moving plot.

The combination has helped Lioness develop a reputation as a series designed to keep viewers invested from one episode to the next.
