Noah Wyle Wins Back-to-Back Emmys for ‘The Pitt’ in Best Drama Actor Category

Noah Wyle has done it again. The The Pitt star took home his second consecutive Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series on Monday, Sept. 14, 2026, extending the medical drama’s remarkable run at television’s biggest awards ceremony.

Wyle was honored at the 78th Primetime Emmy Awards for his portrayal of Dr. Michael “Robby” Robinavitch, the chief attending physician at the center of HBO Max’s acclaimed medical drama.

His victory came one year after he earned his first Emmy in the same category for the show’s debut season. The Pitt also repeated as the winner of Outstanding Drama Series, giving the series another major victory at the ceremony.

Wyle Returns to the Emmy Stage

Wyle entered this year’s ceremony as the clear favorite after another acclaimed season of The Pitt. He faced Sterling K. Brown for Paradise, Gary Oldman for Slow Horses, Mark Ruffalo for Task and Rufus Sewell for The Diplomat.

Awards prognosticators had widely backed Wyle to repeat, following the actor’s strong performance throughout Season 2 and the continued momentum behind the series.

In Season 2, Dr. Robby prepares to step away from the emergency department for a three-month sabbatical. What initially appears to be a much-needed break becomes increasingly complicated as concerns grow about his mental health and what his departure could mean.

The season once again follows the medical staff through the intense, hour-by-hour pressure of an emergency room, with Robby remaining at the heart of the story.

‘I Was Raised on Television’

Accepting the Emmy, Wyle reflected on growing up in Los Angeles and pursuing acting from an early age.

“I was raised on a television and movie theaters were my place of worship,” he said during his speech. “This is all I’ve ever wanted to do and this is the only club I’ve ever wanted to join.”

He then thanked the Television Academy for welcoming him into that “club.”

Wyle also joked that he would be back at work early the following morning, a reminder that his Emmy night came in the middle of an already busy production schedule.

From ‘ER’ to ‘The Pitt’

The win adds another chapter to Wyle’s long career in medical television.

Before taking on Dr. Robby, Wyle was best known for playing Dr. John Carter on NBC’s long-running medical drama ER. The Pitt brought him back into the world of emergency medicine more than a decade after ER ended.

The new series, however, has established its own identity, following the staff of a Pittsburgh emergency room during a 12-hour shift and focusing closely on the pressures facing modern healthcare workers.

Wyle is more than the show’s leading actor. He also serves as an executive producer, director and writer on the series.

The Times previously reported that The Pitt led this year’s Emmy nominations with 25 nods, reflecting the breadth of recognition for its second season.

Another Emmy Night for ‘The Pitt’

Wyle’s victory was part of another successful night for The Pitt, which again claimed the top prize for drama series.

The show’s first season was an immediate success when it premiered in 2025 and was quickly renewed for a second season. Its debut run ultimately earned five Emmys, including Wyle’s first lead-actor award and Katherine LaNasa’s win for supporting actress.

The momentum has continued into Season 2, with the series receiving major recognition across acting and other categories.

Wyle himself also won the 2026 Actor Award for his performance as Dr. Robby earlier this year, further strengthening his awards-season run.

Season 3 Is Already Underway

While Wyle was celebrating his second Emmy, The Pitt was already looking ahead.

Production on Season 3 began during the summer of 2026, with the new season slated to premiere in January 2027.
