While the search remains at a standstill despite the $1 million reward, Savannah’s prolonged silence now speaks volumes: she has nothing left certain… but a faint glimmer of hope. Savannah Guthrie has returned to social media for the first time in nearly three weeks as her mom Nancy Guthrie remains missing.

On Friday, March 20, the Today co-anchor, 54, marked a special day close to her heart as she posted a clip on her Instagram Stories from the show highlighting World Down Syndrome Day. Savannah’s co-hosts were speaking to some of those involved with the non-profit Best Buddies, which supports individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Savannah is an ambassador for the charity and has been “best buddies” with Tara, who paid a sweet tribute to Savannah on the show, for around a decade.

The clip showed co-hosts Hoda Kotb, who is covering for Savannah as the search for her mother Nancy continues, and Craig Melvin interviewing Tara, who has Down Syndrome, outside as she held up a sign saying, “We love you Savannah,” in all capitals.

“We love this sign, because we know how much you love Savannah,” Kotb, 61, told Tara.

“Tomorrow’s World Down Syndrome Day and we’re marking it early with some friends from Best Buddies,” Kotb said of the nonprofit.

“It is also near and dear to Savannah,” said Melvin, 46. “Savannah has worked with Best Buddies for many years now and has been best buddies with Tara for about a decade,” he continued as a photo of Savannah and Tara together appeared onscreen.

Savannah added three yellow heart emojis over the clip in response to the segment.

The Today co-host has been off the air since her mom Nancy disappeared in January. PEOPLE previously confirmed that Kotb will cover for Savannah, as other anchors, including Sheinelle Jones, will also rotate in order to cover for her when needed.

Since Feb. 6, Kotb has been co-hosting Today alongside Melvin. Jones, 47, co-anchored with Melvin during the first week of Savannah’s absence from the show.

Savannah’s last Instagram post was on March 2 when she posted a photo of yellow flowers outside her mom’s home.

“We feel the love and prayers from our neighbors, from the Tucson community and from around the country , ” wrote Savannah. “Please don’t stop praying and hoping with us. bring her home.”

Nancy was last seen on Jan. 31 after her family dropped her off at her Tucson, Ariz., home. Investigators believe she was kidnapped overnight, citing surveillance footage of a masked man at her front door.

In an interview with NBC News on March 12, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos revealed that investigators believe they know the motive behind Nancy’s kidnapping.

“We believe we know why [the kidnapper] did this and we believe that it was targeted, but we’re not 100% sure of that,” said Nanos. “I think day one, we had some strong beliefs about what happened and those beliefs haven’t diminished.” No other details were shared.

On March 16, NewsNation’s Brian Entin shared on X that investigators asked Nancy’s neighbors about surveillance footage from Jan. 11 and Jan. 24.

A $100,000 reward had been offered by the FBI for any information leading to Nancy’s recovery or an arrest in the case. Savannah and her family have since offered an increased $1 million reward and donated $500,000 to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children.
