Ransom Canyon Storms to No. 1 on Netflix as Season 2 Revives the Modern Western

For weeks, Harlan Coben’s I Will Find You had held a strong position near the top of Netflix’s U.S. streaming rankings. Then Ransom Canyon returned.

The romance-driven modern Western, starring Josh Duhamel and Minka Kelly, climbed to No. 1 in the United States after Season 2 arrived on Netflix on July 23, 2026. The series’ comeback is particularly notable given the mixed critical response that greeted its first season.

Season 1 received a 45% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, while its audience response was much stronger, at 71%.

At the center is Staten Kirkland, played by Josh Duhamel, a reserved rancher dealing with devastating personal loss while trying to protect his property and everything his family has built.

His situation becomes even more complicated through his rivalry with Davis Collins, played by Eoin Macken.

Critics and Viewers See Two Different Shows

The divide between critics and audiences has followed Ransom Canyon since its debut.

Season 1 currently stands at 48% on Rotten Tomatoes from critics, compared with a 71% audience score.

That difference says plenty about the series’ appeal.

Viewers looking for the intensity and violence of Yellowstone may find Ransom Canyon considerably lighter. But those drawn to romance, family rivalries and dramatic twists have responded much more warmly.

Season 2 has continued that approach. Rotten Tomatoes currently lists the second season at 50% from critics and 64% from audiences, with reviews noting that the show remains a deliberately soapy and romantic drama while leaning more confidently into what it does best.

Season 2 Brings the Series Back Into the Spotlight

Season 2 premiered on July 23 with all eight episodes arriving at once.

The new season picks up with Quinn back in Ransom Canyon and Staten confronting the fact that his feelings for her have not disappeared.

Meanwhile, other storylines continue to expand across the community. The ranching conflict intensifies, family secrets emerge and younger characters such as Lauren, Lucas and Yancy face their own complications.

Netflix Has Yet to Confirm Season 3

Despite the strong return, there is still no official confirmation of a third season.

For now, viewers have two seasons to explore, with the second consisting of eight episodes. Season 1 had 10 episodes, bringing the series to 18 episodes in total.

Whether audiences see Ransom Canyon as a romantic alternative to Yellowstone, a modern Western soap or simply its own kind of family drama, its latest performance is difficult to dismiss.
