Just when the headlines surrounding former pastor John-Paul Miller appeared to be moving into the courtroom, Netflix is about to put his marriage – and the mysterious final days of his estranged wife Mica Miller – in front of a potentially massive global audience.

Netflix’s new three-part docuseries, Death of the Pastor’s Wife, premieres Aug. 26 and promises never-before-seen footage and new testimony surrounding Mica’s 2024 death, which authorities ruled a suicide.

But the timing could hardly be more dramatic.

The trailer arrives as John-Paul Miller, formerly of Solid Rock Church in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, faces a federal case unrelated to Mica’s death. He was indicted in December 2025 on cyberstalking and false-statement charges, has pleaded not guilty, and was granted another continuance this week.

Miller has not been charged in connection with Mica’s death – an important distinction as Netflix prepares to revisit a case that has fueled intense public scrutiny, protests and a “Justice for Mica” movement.

And judging by the trailer, Netflix isn’t merely retelling the story.

It is digging into the marriage.

According to Netflix, Death of the Pastor’s Wife examines allegations of “control and manipulation,” the circumstances leading to Mica’s death and her family’s continuing search for answers. Friends and relatives who have not previously spoken publicly are also expected to appear.

One detail highlighted in the trailer is particularly chilling.

A friend claims John-Paul’s signature was tattooed on Mica’s side, describing it as being “like ownership.” The trailer then cuts to footage of Miller preaching and declaring that he would “fight tooth and nail” to get what he wanted.

The juxtaposition is unmistakable.

Mica herself is also seen discussing troubling changes in her life, including problems with her voice, hair loss and weight gain. Another interviewee claims she was being stalked around the clock and questions why she would have driven roughly 90 minutes into an isolated area before her death.

Those questions are likely to reignite scrutiny of one of the most disturbing church-related stories of recent years.

Mica was just 14 and attending Solid Rock’s youth group when she first met John-Paul, who was then 28, according to ChurchLeaders. They eventually married in 2017.

By 2024, however, the marriage was unraveling.

Friends and family members have alleged that Mica told them she had been groomed and abused. She reportedly sought a no-contact order and filed for divorce. John-Paul, through an attorney, denied reports alleging that he abused his wife.

Then came April 2024.

At the end of a church service, John-Paul announced from the pulpit that his wife had died by suicide. Mica’s body had been discovered at a North Carolina state park with a gunshot wound authorities determined was self-inflicted.

The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office ruled her death a suicide and later sought FBI assistance. Federal agents subsequently searched John-Paul’s home.

The story quickly exploded far beyond Myrtle Beach, as protesters gathered and online sleuths dissected virtually every development in the case.

Now Netflix is taking that fascination worldwide.

That could dramatically change the scale of the scrutiny facing Miller. What began as a local tragedy, became a national true-crime story and then developed into a separate federal prosecution is about to receive the full Netflix documentary treatment.

And the title alone – Death of the Pastor’s Wife – ensures that the church connection will be impossible to miss.

Netflix premieres the three-part series Aug. 26.
