Outlander: Blood of My Blood Season 2 Premiere Brings Back Two Fan-Favourite Characters

Outlander: Blood of My Blood wasted no time raising the stakes in its second season. The premiere leaves Henry Beauchamp trapped in a 1924 Inverness asylum after a failed attempt to reunite with Julia, while two familiar faces from the original Outlander series unexpectedly return.

The second season premiered on Starz in the US on September 18, 2026, before arriving in the UK on September 19 via MGM+ on Prime Video.

Henry Is Trapped In The Future

The episode picks up after Henry Beauchamp, played by Jeremy Irvine, and his wife Julia, portrayed by Hermione Corfield, attempt to travel through the stones together.

The plan fails, leaving Henry separated from Julia and their baby William. Henry ultimately finds himself in 1924, where he is taken to an asylum in Inverness after claiming that he has travelled through time.

Convinced that Henry’s stories are the result of trauma and delusion, doctors subject him to electroconvulsive therapy. The treatments begin affecting his memories, leaving him increasingly uncertain about the people and events he once knew.

Henry’s situation becomes even more heartbreaking as he struggles to hold on to memories of Julia and their family.

Two Familiar Faces Return

Just when Henry appears to have little hope of being believed, the episode introduces two characters that longtime Outlander viewers will immediately recognise.

Reverend Wakefield, played by Tom Ashley, visits Henry at the asylum and attempts to offer him some comfort. Later, the younger version of the character speaks with his housekeeper, Mrs. Graham, played by Emma Hartley-Miller, about the troubled soldier he has encountered.

Both characters previously appeared in the original Outlander series, where Reverend Wakefield was played by James Fleet and Mrs. Graham by Tracey Wilkinson. Their appearances in the prequel quickly became one of the episode’s biggest talking points among fans.

Viewers took to Reddit to celebrate the surprise cameos, with several immediately speculating that Mrs. Graham could become important to Henry’s story. Some fans also wondered whether she and Reverend Wakefield might help him escape the asylum and find his way back to the stones.

She is forced to deal with the unwanted advances of Lord Lovat, played by Tony Curran, while trying to protect herself and her child. Julia eventually persuades him to respond to the call of the fiery cross and join the conflict surrounding the Jacobite Rebellion.

The premiere therefore leaves both Henry and Julia facing dangerous circumstances on opposite sides of time, with their hopes of being reunited once again hanging in the balance.

Brian And Ellen Are Separated Too

Outlander Blood of My Blood premieres on Saturday, August 9, on MGM+ in the UK.

Henry and Julia are not the only couple facing separation.

Brian Fraser, played by Jamie Roy, and Ellen MacKenzie, portrayed by Harriet Slater, are also pulled apart as the Jacobite conflict begins to escalate.

Ellen chooses to return to Castle Leoch and her brothers after fleeing from her wedding in the first season. The decision differs from the account referenced in the source material, in which Jamie Fraser, played by Sam Heughan, tells Claire that his mother remained hidden until her pregnancy became visible, leaving her brothers with no choice but to allow her to marry Brian.

The new season therefore places both couples in increasingly difficult positions as personal relationships collide with the political and military upheaval of the time.

What Happens Next?

The Season 2 premiere sets up several unresolved questions: Can Henry recover his memories? Will Mrs. Graham help him find a way back to Julia? And can Julia and Henry ever reunite with their family?
