ITV has already decided what will take over Van Der Valk’s Sunday evening slot next weekend — and viewers are getting a blockbuster replacement.

The Amsterdam-set detective drama is nearing the end of its latest run, with the final feature-length episode airing on Sunday, August 16 at 8pm. Although ITV has yet to confirm whether Van Der Valk will return for another series, the broadcaster isn’t leaving its prime Sunday schedule empty. Instead, an iconic film hailed by viewers as a “phenomenal” watch has been lined up to take its place the following weekend.

Labelled as the “best Bond ever”, No Time To Die is set to air on Sunday, August 23, at 8pm, on ITV, with Daniel Craig starring as 007 for the fifth and final time.

Originally released in 2021, the James Bond hit begins with the retired secret service agent enjoying his new tranquil life in Jamaica – that is until an old CIA friend is in need of his help.

This is only the beginning though as the “case turns out to be more personal than ever for the super spy – and has far-reaching consequences.”

Starring opposite the Knives Out star is none other than Inglorious Basterds legend Christoph Waltz as well as Bohemian Rhapsody actor Rami Malek as chilling terrorist Lyutsifer Safin.

“This is probably the best Bond. Ever. There is no let-up in the entire film. Beautifully shot, breathtaking scenery, brilliant plot”, someone praised on IMdB.

Van Der Valk returned earlier this month for season four after a three-year hiatus with a new feature-length episode airing over the past few weekends.

This third and final instalment will see Commissaris Piet Van Der Valk (played by Marc Warren) investigate the murder of a scientist who appears to have been on a brink of a cancer breakthrough.

Unfortunately, there’s been no word on if there will be a fifth series of Van Der Valk but Warren is hopeful.

He told Radio Times: “It’s always had good viewing figures, it’s always been very well received… and I’d love to do more of it because it’s a treat.

“I can’t imagine another job like this coming along.

“So when it’s gone, it’s gone – and I’m not ready for it to go.”
