THIS is the terrifying moment a shotgun-wielding passenger takes a taxi driver hostage – before the brave cabbie takes matters into his own hands.

Stunning dashcam footage showed Ramazan Yildirim, 58, courageously wrestling the armed suspect in the back seat following a dramatic police chase.

Semih C., 31, allegedly took the cabbie hostage – making him drive through the streets of Gaziantep in Turkey while firing shots at nearby officers.

A woman, named only as Gulbahar Y., 36, appeared too frightened to move as she sat next to the armed suspect in the rear of the car.

Local cops started pursuing the vehicle after receiving reports that the driver had been taken hostage at gunpoint.

In the jaw-dropping footage, the gunman, donning a Beşiktaş football jersey, appears to scream at the driver while pointing his huge rifle at him.

He orders the cabbie to keep driving while aiming the huge shotgun at him – allegedly threatening him multiple times at point blank range.

The cabbie eventually stops, prompting the armed suspect to yell at him again.

Moments later, as the shooter aims his weapon towards cops who have surrounded the vehicle, the courageous man behind the wheel then leaps into the back seat.

He becomes involved in a tense scuffle with the suspect, attempting to grapple the huge black gun out of his hands.

Local police approach the car pointing their pistols at the armed shooter – as the pair in the vehicle continue to wrestle for nearly one minute.

An officer then leaps into action from behind, taking the gun away from the suspect and allowing the fearless driver to make an escape.

The dramatic chase, which went on for about 80km, took place on May 10.

It spectacularly came to an end as police blocked the vehicle near Karacaahmet following the driver’s brave intervention.

Heroic Yildirim said: “I grabbed the gun with both hands. I stopped it from hitting the police.

“When he pulled the gun back inside, I intervened again, took the weapon from him and threw it outside.”

He added: “If I had not intervened, either I, he or the police officers would have been harmed.”

Yildirim suffered an injury to his hand during the struggle and received seven stitches.

The situation is said to have kicked off after a domestic dispute during which the suspect allegedly shot his brother before calling the taxi, local media reported.
