Another Jeopardy! superchampion’s reign has come to an end. Adam Remsen was defeated by Richard Nguyen on June 30 after winning 12 games.

Remsen, from Memphis, Tennessee, was in the lead during his last game when they got to the final clue. He had $20,800, compared to Nguyen’s $14,400.

The clue in “20th Century Novels” was “David Ben-Gurion called this 1958 book ‘as a piece of propaganda… the greatest thing ever written about Israel.” Only Nguyen had the correct answer of “What is Exodus?” He wagered $6,401, giving him $20,801.

Since Remsen answered, “What is Fiddler on the Roof?” and was wrong, he dropped down to $12,799, after wagering $8,001. Remsen ended as a 12-game winner with $306,415.

Now, the attorney and theater producer spoke out about his loss and how he is preparing for the Tournament of Champions, which he will participate in in 2027. On the Jeopardy! Substack, host Ken Jennings talked to all three contestants, including Mandy Moreno, whom the men versed.

Nguyen, a research attorney, shared that he knew he had to get the final answer right in order to win, so he thought hard about the answer. Despite ending in third place, Moreno, a social psychologist, had more attempts on the buzzer — 47 — than both of her opponents. They were just faster.

Jennings asked Remsen how it felt going up against Nguyen. “It feels like my buzzer didn’t work most of the time,” he said. “He was really fast on the buzzer.”

“It was really impressive. I was getting nervous, and then I was good, and then I felt nervous again,” Remsen said. “Kind of surprised. That’s usually a pretty known category for me, but I just didn’t know Exodus.”

The host then asked Remsen if he would be resting in between his game and the TOC or if he would be studying harder. “Are you going to be really drilling intensively for the upcoming tournament?” Jennings asked.

“Probably read some Leon Uris novels,” Remsen joked about the final clue. His comment made Jennings laugh loudly. “I’ll do some studying as well. I’ve watched for years, of course, and the questions seem to get harder in the TOC.”

“The TOC does get harder,” Jennings said. “That’s very smart.”
