Riley Green Says He’s Been “Catching Strays” on The Voice After This Hilarious Moment
One rejection during the Blind Auditions has been living in The Voice Coach’s head rent-free all season long.
Riley Green is quickly realizing that dealing with rejection is just part of being a Coach on The Voice.
With the Season 30 Blind Auditions officially wrapped, Green, Kelly Clarkson, Queen Latifah, and Adam Levine, and their respective teams find themselves competing in the all-important Battles, continuing Monday, October 12 at 8 p.m. ET on NBC and the next day on Peacock. However, Green is still clearly dealing with the aftereffects of one Artist in particular turning him down: Hazel Gerson, who chose to join Clarkson’s team over Green.
“Catching strays left and right over here,” Green wrote on TikTok alongside a video of the moment along with some behind-the-scenes clips featuring him hilariously spiraling in the days that followed.
Riley Green gets roasted by his fellow Voice Coaches in Season 30
In the October 7 TikTok video, the rookie Voice Coach shared a moment from the Blind Auditions that has lived in his head rent-free: When recent college grad Gerson chose Clarkson as her Coach just moments after delivering a stunning performance of “Too Close” by Alex Care.
His video starts with Gerson confidently choosing to join Team Kelly. “I’m really bad with decisions, but this is an easy one. I’m gonna go Team Kelly,” Gerson announced on stage, leading Green to quip, “That’s the fastest a girl has turned me down in a long time. She said, ‘This is an easy decision.'”
Then Levine pointed something out that drove the knife in even further. “She’s like, ‘This is easy.’ She was straight up, ‘I’m bad at decisions, but this one’s really easy!'” Levine pointed out.
Clarkson couldn’t stop laughing. “I didn’t actually hear that!” she told Green, leading him to point to his heart and respond, “I heard it. I heard it right here.”
Riley Green can’t stop bringing up how Hazel Gerson chose Kelly Clarkson over him on The Voice
But that was just the beginning. In the clips that followed, it’s clear that Gerson got into Green’s head in the worst — and most hilarious — way. After Queen Latifah and Clarkson were done complimenting an Artist after another successful Blind Audition, Green chimed in with more sadness.
“That hurt,” he said after missing out again on adding an Artist to his team. “But it didn’t hurt quite as bad as that girl that said I can’t make decisions, but she hates my guts.”
That deadpan comment took one Coach by total surprise — Levine had to fight from spitting water all over the Voice set! “I love how that turned into so much worse than it actually was,” Levine quipped.
And by that point, whenever the cameras caught Green talking strategy, the Coaches were just waiting for the country star to bring up the fact that Gerson didn’t choose him. In fact, it got to the point where the Coaches would cut him off and stop him mid-complaint (“You’re so stupid,” Levine joked).
It was all in good fun, though, but leave it to Green himself to leave fans with one final biased interpretation of what went down: “Yeah, I suck at decisions, but you’re a stupid freaking moron,” he said to no one in particular.
“How you received it is so great,” Clarkson said, speaking for Voice fans everywhere.
