The Superstar Quietly Reveals A Major Broadway Ambition After Returning To The Stage, As His Secret Musical Project Signals A Bold New Career Chapter Fans Never Saw Coming

American Idol Season 8 runner-up Adam Lambert recently opened up about his desire to return to the stage, sharing that he’s been working on writing his own musical for years now. Lambert previously appeared on Broadway in Cabaret.

Adam Lambert Reflects on His Musical Theater Experience

Adam Lambert made his Broadway debut in 2024 as the Emcee in a revival of Cabaret. In a new interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Lambert spoke about getting his start in musical theater, as he appeared in the first national tour of Wicked before competing on American Idol.

“I had an amazing time doing Cabaret,” Lambert said of his Broadway debut. “The thing I loved most was that it was a full-circle moment, coming back to my roots, going back to theater people. Theater people make a lot of sense to me — I feel very at home in that community.”

Losing 'American Idol' Was Actually a Win for Adam Lambert

Lambert said that he veered away from theater due to feeling that “it was limiting in the types of parts, and the number of parts, that I found compelling,” explaining, “I wanted to explore themes and musical styles that weren’t really common in theater.”

Since then, Lambert has noticed “a whole awakening on Broadway of diversity and different walks of life, and there’s just a lot more to offer an actor now.”

Lambert revealed that he’s spoken to Jamie Lloyd, who directed Nicole Scherzinger in Sunset Boulevard, as well as others, about returning to the stage, but added that he “can’t quite seem to find a show that would make sense.”
