Six apparent rhyming pairs.
And a handful of tiny red letters sitting above them.
At first glance, this The 1% Club challenge looks almost ridiculously straightforward.
Players are told:
“If you remove each pair of rhyming words and rearrange the red letters above the remaining words, what new common four-letter word can you make?”
The board includes words such as:
HUMPTY, RAZZLE, MEX, HOB, TEENSY, NITTY, DAZZLE, WALKIE, TEX, SILLY, WITTY and BILLY.
It sounds simple enough.
Find the words that rhyme.
Cross them out.
Then use whatever letters survive.
But there is a reason this kind of question becomes much harder when the clock is running.
The trap is assuming every word needs to be paired.
It doesn’t.
Give yourself 30 seconds before scrolling down to the solution.
Some Of The Rhymes Jump Out Immediately
The easiest place to start is with:
RAZZLE
There is an obvious partner elsewhere on the board:
DAZZLE
So those two can disappear.
That removes the red letters:
B and G
Next comes another fairly obvious pair:
MEX
and:
TEX
They rhyme perfectly.
So:
C and I
are removed as well.
So far, so good.
But now the board begins to look less friendly.
The “-ITTY” Words Are Another Big Clue

Look at:
NITTY
and:
WITTY
Again, they rhyme.
That pair can be crossed out, taking away:
F and K
Then there is:
SILLY
and:
BILLY
Another clear rhyme.
So:
J and L
also disappear.
At this point, eight of the twelve words have been eliminated.
And suddenly, the red letters left on the screen matter far more than the words themselves.
This Is Where The Puzzle Changes Completely
The remaining red letters are:
A, D, E and H
Now forget the rhymes.
The instruction tells you to rearrange those four letters to make a common four-letter word.
That means you’re no longer trying to solve a rhyme puzzle at all.
You’re solving a tiny anagram.
And once you start shifting those four letters around, there is one extremely familiar English word they can form.
Final chance before the answer is revealed.
The Answer: HEAD
The rhyming pairs are:
RAZZLE – DAZZLE
MEX – TEX
NITTY – WITTY
SILLY – BILLY
Removing those pairs leaves four words with the red letters:
A, D, E, H
Rearrange them:
H – E – A – D
And you get:
HEAD
So the answer is:
HEAD
The clever part is that the question initially encourages you to focus completely on the words.
But the words are really just a filtering system.
Once the rhyming pairs disappear, the puzzle abruptly turns into an anagram — and the four surviving letters have been sitting in plain sight the entire time.
