A crime thriller that fans could not stop bingeing won’t be returning to ITV.
After the Flood, which starred Sophie Rundle as PC Joanna Marshall, had been popular with viewers but the broadcaster has confirmed that there are “no plans” to bring it back.
The show started in 2024, with viewers gripped by the mystery as police investigated when a man was found dead in an underground car park following a catastrophic flood.
The second series aired earlier this year, with Jill Halfpenny joining the cast as DS Sam Bradley. The latest run was set a year after the devastating flood, with Jo now a detective and looking into another baffling case.

After the Flood proved to be a hit with viewers, with one fan posting on IMDb.com: “Couldn’t turn it off! Amazing. Had me hooked from the very start, I didn’t even mean to start watching it, it just came on and it hooked me and I binge watched both seasons within two days.”
Someone else said on Reddit that it was a “riveting series” and one person remarked on Rotten Tomatoes: “A gripping series well presented and well acted.”
Fans had been hoping for a third series of the show and the cast members were hopeful too, with Matt Stokoe and Nicholas Gleaves, who play Detective Pat Holman and Sergeant Phil Mackie, previously saying in an exclusive interview that they were keen for another instalment.
“There are unanswered questions at the end of season two,” said Nicholas. “So hopefully we will get to come back.”

An ITV spokesperson said: “We’re very proud of After The Flood and what the drama achieved across two series.
“Commissioning decisions involve many factors and while there are no plans for a third series, we’re very grateful to everyone who supported the drama.
“We’d like to extend our thanks to Mick Ford (creator and writer), Azhur Saleem (director), the actors and the team at Quay Street Productions for producing two brilliant series.”
