Netflix Viewers Hail The Good Place as ‘Peak Comfort TV’ With 53 Episodes Ready to Binge

Finding a television series that is funny, easy to binge and comforting enough to return to again and again can be surprisingly difficult. But Netflix viewers believe one acclaimed comedy deserves a place alongside familiar favourites such as Friends, Gilmore Girls, The Office and How I Met Your Mother.

That show is The Good Place, Michael Schur’s fantasy comedy starring Kristen Bell and Ted Danson.

Originally airing on NBC from 2016 until 2020, the series ran for four seasons and produced 53 episodes. The complete show is now available on Netflix, giving viewers plenty to work through when they want something light-hearted without sacrificing a strong story.

More than 100 people responded, but The Good Place repeatedly appeared among the recommendations.

“The Good Place would be a good one,” one viewer suggested.

Another fan was even more enthusiastic, arguing that the comedy improved with every season and praising its unusual approach to character development. They also described its conclusion as “one of the best finales ever.”

A third viewer summed up the appeal more simply: “Absolutely. Peak comfort TV.”

What Is The Good Place About?

At the centre of the story is Eleanor Shellstrop, played by Kristen Bell.

After dying, Eleanor finds herself in an idyllic afterlife neighbourhood known as the Good Place. There is only one problem: she quickly realises that she has been sent there by mistake.

Fully aware that her life on Earth hardly qualified her for such a heavenly destination, Eleanor attempts to conceal her past in the hope of avoiding the Bad Place, the show’s equivalent of Hell.

Running the neighbourhood is Michael, an afterlife “architect” played by Ted Danson.

What initially appears to be a relatively straightforward comedy about a woman trying to hide the truth gradually expands into a much larger story. Across four seasons, the series explores events on Earth, reveals more about the Bad Place and introduces an increasingly complicated picture of how its fictional afterlife operates.
