Netflix’s The Gentlemen Returns for Season 2 as Eddie Halstead Takes a Darker Turn — and Season 3 Is Already Confirmed
More than two years after The Gentlemen became a worldwide Netflix hit, Guy Ritchie’s crime drama is finally returning — and the latest trailer suggests Eddie Halstead is becoming far more dangerous than the reluctant aristocrat viewers first met.
Season 2 will arrive on Netflix on Thursday, September 3, with eight new episodes. Theo James returns as Eddie alongside Kaya Scodelario as Susie Glass, while several new faces are joining the expanding criminal world.
The first season proved a major success for Netflix, attracting more than 100 million views worldwide and reaching No. 1 in 75 countries.
Now, the story is moving forward one year — and Eddie appears ready to pursue much bigger ambitions.
Eddie Halstead wants his empire back
The newly released trailer immediately signals how much Eddie has changed.
Standing with Geoff Seacombe, played by Vinnie Jones, Eddie looks across his family’s land and declares: “Four hundred years ago, this estate spread out as far as the eye can see. I want it all back.”
His ambitions soon bring him into contact with a new character played by Downton Abbey star Hugh Bonneville, whom Eddie approaches for help with his plan to “decriminalise marijuana.”
But Susie is becoming increasingly concerned about the man Eddie is turning into.
She warns that “The Duke” is developing into “something volatile,” and the trailer quickly backs up her concerns with a glimpse of Eddie strangling another man.
The tension escalates further during a confrontation with Bobby Glass, played by Ray Winstone. After Bobby calls Eddie a “snake,” Eddie loses his temper and screams back: “Don’t you f*****g talk to me like that!”
The outburst leaves the room stunned and provides one of the trailer’s clearest indications that Eddie’s relationship with the Glass family may be entering dangerous territory.
What is The Gentlemen Season 2 about?
According to the official synopsis, a year has passed since Eddie and Susie began working together within Bobby’s international criminal operation.
The pair are attempting to grow the business, but Bobby’s increasingly questionable decisions threaten what they have built.
That leaves Eddie and Susie facing a difficult choice: intervene themselves or stand back and risk losing everything.
The synopsis also carries an ominous warning about the direction of the season: “Unfettered ambition never ends well…”
Hugh Bonneville and Maya Jama join the cast
Season 2 will expand the show’s ensemble with several notable additions.
Hugh Bonneville joins the series alongside Dune actor Benjamin Clementine and The Housemaid star Michele Morrone. Love Island presenter Maya Jama is also joining the cast.
Returning stars include Theo James, Kaya Scodelario, Ray Winstone and Vinnie Jones.
Reaction to the trailer has already been enthusiastic, with viewers celebrating the show’s return and praising Ritchie’s crime series. Some fans are also calling for the story to continue well beyond its second season.
And Netflix has already given them some good news.
The Gentlemen Season 3 is officially happening
Even before Season 2 reaches Netflix, the streaming service has confirmed that The Gentlemen will return for a third season.
Ritchie said the scale of the series has continued to grow, making another chapter feel like a natural progression.
“The ambition of The Gentlemen has accelerated, the world has expanded and the consequences carry weight,” he said. “A third season felt inevitable, and I’m looking forward to pushing the boundaries of it further.”
No plot, production schedule or release date has yet been announced for Season 3.
For now, attention remains firmly on Eddie and Susie’s next chapter — and whether their growing ambitions will strengthen their position in Bobby’s empire or ultimately put everything they have built at risk.
