The series also stars Alex Lawther as the real-life Sam Trabucco, co-CEO of Alameda Research, and Matt Rife as the real Ryan Salame, CEO of FTX Digital Markets.
Taking to X, formerly Twitter, to make the announcement, Netflix teased: “Here’s your first look at The Altruists, starring Julia Garner and Anthony Boyle.
“Two hyper-smart idealists race to rebuke the global finance market – then get accused of stealing $8 billion and become Gen Z’s own Bonnie & Clyde… Coming to Netflix 19 November.”
House of Guinness’s Arthur Guinness star Anthony Boyle takes the lead role, with the modern-day thriller worlds away from his previous character’s story, which was set in 1800s Dublin.
Boyle took to Instagram to share a photo of himself as Bankman-Fried, with a clean-shaven face and curly hair.
“I’ll watch this for that hair alone. I hope this is all about your hair,” one fan joked. “There’s something different about you…,” another added.
“It is kinda weird to see him in something that is not a period drama actually,” a third noted.
Heated Rivalry actor Hudson Williams will also star as Duncan Rheingans-Yoo and fans flocked to the comments to express their excitement over his role.
“I’m so sat for this! Can’t wait to see Hudson in it,” one fan said, while another added: “We will be watching for Hudson Williams.”
FTX was founded in 2019 and became one of the biggest and most well-known cryptocurrency exchanges in the world.
Yet only three years later, the company collapsed, with billions of dollars in customer funds reportedly missing.
Both Bankman-Fried and Ellison were eventually convicted on various counts of wire and securities fraud, as well as money laundering.
The Altruists is coming to Netflix on November 19
