Fans still can’t believe the star-studded film failed to bag a single Oscar nomination.
Netflix is now streaming The French Dispatch, co-written and directed by famed filmmaker Wes Anderson. It was originally released in cinemas in 2021 and left critics and casual viewers impressed.
This was no surprise considering Anderson’s stellar track record, as well as the drama’s A-list cast. It features six Academy Award-winning actors, including Adrien Brody, Tilda Swinton and Frances McDormand.
Set in 1975, the film takes viewers to a fictional French city where the editor of a prestigious magazine suddenly dies of a heart attack. His final wish is to shut the magazine down after one farewell issue.

The final issue focuses on unique stories from his reporters’ careers, and viewers watch as each story is brought to life.
The rest of the impressive cast features the likes of Timothee Chalamet, Lea Seydoux and Owen Wilson – whose performances no doubt contributed to the movie’s success.
It earned a 75% ‘certified fresh’ score on Rotten Tomatoes. One eager fan on the website reviewed: “Fantastic and whimsical! Truly a masterpiece equipped with poetic storytelling and mesmerizing visuals! Watch now!”
Another added: “The film was wildly entertaining, non stop dialogue and artfully curated scenes. Possibly Wes’s best work yet!”
While a third moviegoer chimed in: “Charming! Quirky! Avant-Garde! Another Brilliant Success for Wes Anderson & Cast!”
And a fourth said: “I feel like I just ate a perfectly cooked meal by one of my favourite chefs. Just the right number of courses. Delicious.”
Despite receiving widespread praise, The French Dispatch didn’t bag any Oscar nominations. Fans were surprised that Anderson, whose films are routinely named at the Oscars, was completely shut out of the 2022 awards.
Even more fans were left fuming, with one posting: “To this day I’m still mad The French Dispatch wasn’t nominated or at least put them on production design nominee.”
Someone else agreed, sharing: “This not getting nominated for anything in the last Oscars was total BS, this was phenomenal. The set design in particular was outstanding.”
