For countless fans at home, the connection seemed impossible to ignore.

But as the clock disappeared and the Sprouters struggled to untangle their remaining clues, the famous Wham! song remained hidden in plain sight.

For many viewers, seeing Tropicana on the wall was enough.
They immediately wanted the Sprouters to try putting Club before it.
The contestants couldn’t see it.

Another joked that they couldn’t be friends with anyone who didn’t automatically assume Tropicana should be preceded by Club.

Urban could easily send contestants down the wrong path because it also belonged conceptually with the Popes group.

As with the best Connecting Walls, several clues appeared to belong somewhere other than their intended final group.
By the time the Sprouters realized what had happened, their opportunities were gone.

The frustration was made worse because the connections finally became clear to the team after time had effectively run out.
The buzzer had sounded and their remaining lives were gone.
They were left kicking themselves over clues that suddenly looked considerably easier once the pressure disappeared.

The Connecting Wall mistake looked costly.
Ultimately, it didn’t matter.
The Sprouters recovered brilliantly in the remainder of the game and finished with an emphatic 24 points.
The Hopsters ended on 14.
That gave the Sprouters a 10-point victory and sent them directly through to the next stage of the competition.
