Netflix will be dropping its Little House on the Prairie reboot – and it’s perfect for fans of Yellowstone and Anne With An E.
The series arrives this week and promises to serve up a frontier survivalist story based on the beloved novels by author Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Little House on the Prairie was previously announced by Netflix and will have big shoes to fill, following the immense popularity of the original TV adaptation, which aired between 1974 and 1983.
Speaking about taking on a fresh adaptation of Little House on the Prairie for Netflix, showrunner Rebecca Sonnenshine, known for her work on The Vampire Diaries and The Boys, said: “I fell deeply in love with these books when I was 5 years old. They inspired me to become a writer and a filmmaker, and I am honored and thrilled to be adapting these stories for a new audience [sic].”

Little House on the Prairie will be released globally on Netflix on Thursday, July 9.
The series will arrived at 8am British Summer Time for UK audiences.
Little House on the Prairie consists of eight episodes, which will be dropping at once for viewers to binge.

Little House on the Prairie features a large ensemble cast, who have had role in various other projects prior to the Netflix drama.

Child star Alice Halsey takes on the role of Laura Ingalls after starring in Apple TV’s Lessons in Chemistry.
Australian actor Luke Bracey, who is best known for Hacksaw Ridge, Little Fires Everywhere, and Holidate, stars as Laura’s father Charles Ingalls.
Palm Royale’s Crosby Fitzgerald takes on the part of Laura’s mother Caroline Ingalls.

Rounding off the Ingalls family is Canadian child star Skywalker Hughes as Laura’s older sister Mary Ingalls after parts in Joe Pickett and Ordinary Angels.
Other cast members include New Amsterdam actor Jocko Sims as Independence’s medic Dr. George Tann, October Road star Warren Christie as Civil War veteran John Edwards, Avatar: The Last Airbender’s Meegwun Fairbrother portrays Native American and farmer Mitchell, Alyssa Wapanatǎhk of Peter Pan and Wendy fame plays Mitchell’s wife White Sun, Echo actress Wren Zhawenim Gotts stars as their daughter Good Eagle and Xander Cole plays White Sun’s younger brother Little Puma.
Other cast members include Ryan Robbins from Riverdale as Russell Kind, Station 19 actor Barrett Doss as Emily Henderson, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds star Michael Hough as Eli James, and Mary Holland from Senior Year as Jemma James.
Further casting includes Kowen Cadorath as Caleb, Thosh Collins as Louis, Maclean Fish as Adam Scott, and Rebecca Amzallag as Lacey Aubert.

The new version is expected to serve up a frontier tale perfect for 2026 that retains the grit and rugged individualism spirit of the novels and original series.
Audiences can expect a heartwarming watch as the series set in 1869 that sees the Ingalls family leaving behind their cabin in the Big Woods in Wisconsin as they head to Kansas for new opportunities and the promise of land on which to build a new home.
The family will make new friends and learn lessons as they start fresh in the town of Independence.

Yes, Netflix has already renewed the family drama prior to a single episode even hitting screens, underscoring the streaming platform’s confidence in Little House on the Prairie.
Speaking about the renewal news, showrunner Sonnenshine told Netflix’s Tudum: “I’m incredibly grateful to our wonderful cast and crew, who put their hearts and hard work into making our first season come alive.
“We can’t wait to share this new adaptation of the Little House books with the world, and we’re thrilled that Netflix is giving us the opportunity to continue the story.
According to Tudum, the early Netflix renewal suggests there’s now a demand for “feel-good, heartland-rooted comfort programming”, much like Virgin River and Sweet Magnolias.
