Fans think the series should be talked about as much as the latest Harlan Coben adaptation.
Netflix’s new sci-fi thriller is keeping viewers hooked just a few episodes in. Human Vapor was only released on the platform just a few days ago.
It was one of several new additions to the extensive library for July and as a result, is possibly being overlooked by some. At the time of writing, it has not managed to land a place in the top 10 most watched series among subscribers but those who have binged it already believe it deserves a spot.
The streamer explains that the production is a collaboration between a team of top Japanese and Korean creators. They’ve joined forces to reboot entertainment company Toho’s legendary film of the same name with a new original story.

According to its synopsis, when a guest commentator swells and explodes on live TV in an unprecedented and unimaginable crime. As a result the whole world is thrown into shock.
Behind this horrific murder is a man who has seemingly vanished into thin air: the Human Vapor. With no one able to grasp his true identity, this enigma continues to announce and execute a series of targeted assassinations.
They evade identification and capture to escalate nationwide terror with each inexplicable attack. The series was written by Yeon Sang-ho who also served as showrunner and was behind the cult hit Train to Busan.
While it does not have as many reviews as another recently released thriller, the latest Harlan Coben series I Will Find You, Human Vapor boasts a marginally better rating on website IMDB. It hasn’t received enough professional reviews to yet warrant a score on Rotten Tomatoes.
However, that hasn’t stopped fans from immediately singing its praises and urging others to check it out. One person took to the Netflix subreddit just a day after its release.
The user posted: “I just completed this series!! Absolute gem of a series. I am amazed to see literally no one mentioning this!!! It is rare to get this good of a series. Got too hooked and binged it in one night.”
They added: “It was solid from start to finish. Every department has done a solid job on their work (acting, VFX, music, cinematography etc). There is literally no bad episode in this one. All 8 episodes are just that good. My favourite is definitely ep 2 (10/10). Guys give this a try, you won’t be disappointed. A solid – 9/10 from my side. Close to perfection.”
Another person agreed, as they shared: ” Absolutely phenomenal, one of best in this year! Human Vapor was riveting!
“This conspiracy mystery thriller had substantive depth and it featured nuanced complicated characters. What an excellent cross collaboration of Korean and Japanese creative minds. One of my favourite new shows of the year. I really hope Netflix keeps doing collaboration with Toho and makes more bangers like this one!”
Human Vapor is streaming on Netflix.
