BBC’s Acclaimed Liverpool Crime Drama This City Is Ours Renewed for Season 3 Before Second Season Even Premieres
The BBC has confirmed that its acclaimed crime drama This City Is Ours will return for a third season, announcing the renewal before the show’s highly anticipated second series has even premiered.
The Liverpool-set thriller, starring James Nelson-Joyce and Hannah Onslow, became a major success following its debut in March 2025, attracting millions of viewers and earning nominations at the BAFTA Television Awards.
The early renewal means the story will continue beyond its upcoming second season, with production on another eight episodes scheduled to begin in Liverpool in 2027.
BBC Confirms Third Season Following Acclaimed Debut
This City Is Ours follows Michael Kavanagh, played by James Nelson-Joyce, a senior figure in an organized crime operation whose life takes an unexpected direction when he falls in love with Diana Williams, portrayed by Hannah Onslow.
Michael’s attempts to build a future beyond the criminal world become increasingly complicated by dangerous loyalties and rivalries.
The show’s first season received widespread praise, with viewers describing the drama as phenomenal.
Its success was recognized with BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Drama and Leading Actor.
The BBC has now commissioned a third eight-part season, although further casting announcements have yet to be made.
Season 2 Brings Michael and Diana Back Into Danger
The second season begins shortly after the events of the first finale.
Michael and Diana have barely arrived in Spain when circumstances force them to return and answer questions surrounding Ricardo’s death.
Back in Liverpool, tensions continue to grow among the remaining members of the criminal organization.
Their problems intensify when a gangster from Ronnie’s era, recently released from prison, arrives demanding compensation from the operation.
The developments threaten to destabilize an already fragile criminal network, leaving Michael and Diana facing further complications as they attempt to move forward with their lives.
