Netflix just delivered another crime thriller hit.
Though Netflix offers original content across a wide range of genres, crime thrillers continue to excel on the streamer. These crime thrillers take the form of bingeworthy series, such as the Jason Bateman-starring Black Rabbit, or movies like Rebel Ridge (2024) and Havoc (2025). English-language movies and TV shows are obviously major draws for audiences, especially in North America, but countries around the world continue to contribute successful movies and TV shows in their own languages. One such non-English sequel is now making waves.
Netflix’s best crime shows, whether scripted or in a documentary series style, show off the best of the best when it comes to what’s available now.
Following its release on the platform on June 10, Colors of Evil: Black now stands as the third most popular movie on Netflix both in the U.S. and globally, as of writing. On the worldwide top 10 chart, the film falls just behind The Marked Woman (2026) and, in first place, Office Romance (2026). Sonic the Hedgehog 3 (2024) and Swapped (2026) round out the rest of the top five.
Written and directed by Adrian Panek, Colors of Evil: Black is a Polish film that serves as a sequel to Colors of Evil: Red from 2024. The film is an adaptation of the second novel in the Kolorey Zła (Colors of Evil) book trilogy by Polish author Małgorzata Oliwia Sobczak.
Colors of Evil: Black features Jakub Giersza back as prosecutor Leopold Bilski, this time to investigate the links between a missing boy in a small town and an old missing persons case. Marianna Zydek costars in the sequel as Julia Sarman, an assistant prosecutor.
Though viewership is strong for the Colors of Evil sequel, there’s no critical consensus on the film yet. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has no critics’ score, with only five reviews currently having been added to the platform. The five present are somewhat middling, with three standing at either 6 or 7 out of 10. The lowest score is 5.5, while the highest is 8.
A frequent point of praise for Colors of Evil: Black is just how effectively it builds its grim atmosphere. As with Red, which involved the murder of a young girl who has her lips removed, the subject matter here is bleak, and the film doesn’t shy away from darkness. Clearly, this is resonating with Netflix subscribers.
It’s unclear whether the grim Polish film will continue to find success in the Netflix top 10 charts in days and weeks ahead, but its current placement bodes well for Panek getting to conclude his trilogy. While questions remain about the franchise’s future, Colors of Evil: Black is evidently already a win.
