Furious spent its first season chasing the truth about Isabel’s death, but the finale reveals that almost everyone — including Catherine herself — had misunderstood what happened that night.

Episode 8, “Hart Island,” brings Alice, Catherine, Danny and Nora to Jay Easton’s mansion as years of buried memories, abuse and secrets finally collide. The confrontation exposes who really hurt Isabel, why Catherine was connected to her death and what Emma Easton had been hiding.

Jay had brutally beaten Isabel and left her bleeding.

The finale reveals Alice killed Jay Easton

The episode then returns to Alice’s earlier conversation with Catherine.

Catherine asks how Jay died.

Alice tells her the official explanation: respiratory failure.

Catherine knows there is more to the story.

The finale finally shows viewers what really happened upstairs at the mansion.

After Jay told Alice that the video of her childhood abuse had been his favorite, something changed in her.

Alice stepped onto his breathing tube.

She then covered his mouth, preventing him from getting air.

Jay suffocated.

Alice killed him.

The revelation creates a disturbing parallel between Alice and Catherine.

After finally watching the recording, Alice searches deeper into the FBI material.

She finds a list of “known downloads” associated with her video.

In other words, she now potentially has names connected to the distribution of footage documenting the abuse she suffered when she was 14.

That discovery transforms the final minutes of the season.

The investigation that began around Catherine and Isabel has become intensely personal for Alice.

Emmy Rossum explained that Alice spends the story believing she cannot obtain justice for herself, only to find herself on a “collision course” with Catherine.

Through that relationship, Alice is forced to confront what happened to her and the choices she has made because of it.

“She’s living with a lot of secrets,” Rossum said, “and now, by the end of our show, she has even more.”
