The fourth finalist never locked in a response at all, watching helplessly as a life-changing share of the jackpot slipped away in a matter of seconds. What has left viewers talking ever since isn’t the difficulty of the puzzle itself, but the cruel realization that sometimes the difference between walking away with thousands and leaving empty-handed is simply having the courage to trust an answer before the clock reaches zero.

Four players reached the prestigious 1% question – Hazel, David, Helen and Shashi.

They were all competing to take home a share of an incredible £97,000 jackpot.

The 1% question asked: “The following rows all represent something.

“What specifically does the last row of numbers represent that makes it different from the other three?”

The contestants were shown four rows of numbers, each with 24 digits altogether – and only 30 seconds to figure it out.

Once time was up, Lee asked the four finalists to reveal what their answers were.

Although David didn’t have a guess – the other three had all answered “leap year”.

As they were correct, it meant Helen, Shashi and Hazel each walked away with £32,333.

Poor David was left with nothing after turning down the chance to take home a share of the £10,000 prize offered to all contestants who reach the 1% question.

Lucky Shashi had reached the final with his “pass” intact, so he bagged an additional £1,000.

Elsewhere, a tricky family question wiped out 32 players on the ITV game show.

This 40% question asked: “Which of these would it be impossible to do?”

He then read aloud the three options.

These were – “marry your cousin’s cousin”, “marry your brother’s widow” or ” marry your widow’s sister”.

The contestants were then given 30 seconds to attempt to correctly identify the answer but for 32 – it was clearly a struggle.

Reacting in shock as time was up, Lee remarked: “Wow! That is massive!

“32 people went out on that one. Let’s have a look at the answer.”

Amid gasps from the crowd, Lee told them that the right answer was – “marry your widow’s sister”.

This was the correct answer as it would be impossible to marry your own widow’s sister as you would already be dead.

Cracking out another joke, Lee said: “And before we get any complaints, yes, I accept that is a bit Zombie-ist!”
